Whatever you get, don't go cheap. I like to make sure the outlets on the unit look like the ones in your house, not molded into the case. You also want to research what the inside components look like. Do they use heavy guage wire or do they use thin wire or, worse yet, a thin piece of copper to connect things. Companies like APC, Panamax and Tripp-lite are the more common ones.

Not sure what you budget is or how many outlets you need, but I an looking at the Tripp-Lite HT1210ISOCTR. I have found it for as little as $250 -- MSRP is $499.

My family and i use this Power Sentry model:

http://www.removethelabels.com/2008/...nter-surge-14/

not only is it a surge protector is also "cleans" your power, which i believe is known as a conditioner. We have 5 of them for our various TV's and electronics. We bought ours at costco for 39.99, but fry's has them for i think it was 29.99. it protects up to 3900 joules. But like the poster above says research anyone you want to buy first.

Hope this helps!

I really need one, too. I've been dreaming about this one for a while now.

Anyways, there are some cheaper ones out there. It all really boils down to how many outlets you need/want.

Edit: This one's $299.95 and has 9 outlets. It looks like a pretty good one:

They are not bad, but you will also need to understand the equipment that you plan on plugging into it. If you have any high current devices such as a reciever or amplifier, you may want to look into one with multiple banks. These are actually separated circuits which can help focus on a specific function. The one I have now has three banks -- high current, audio components, video components.

This can all start to get confusing and overwhelming very quickly.

I am planning to plug my Yamaha RX-Z9 receiver and Paradigm Subwoofer in the surge or conditioner.

Thanks

I use this one from Belkin. It's pretty sturdy, has isolated outlets, and provides 4,720 Joules of protection.

Belkin makes great products at reasonable price points. I have the model below the one you linked to and it has done a good job. Having said that, I will be changing to a more dedicated "power conditioner" shortly as my building is 30 years old (if not 40) and doesn't have the cleanest power lines.

I good quality surge protector (at the very least) is as essential to a home theatre system as the rest of your connections, such as speaker wire/cabling, interconnects, etc.
