Default Need Surge Protector Help!!!

Can anyone suggest any good surge protectors for my home theater system? The guy at circuit city pointed me to a Monster surge protector for $99.99. I don't want to be cheap, but if I can get something with equal or better quality, for less..... then I'd rather take that route. The link to the one he pointed out is below:

oh for a moment I thought the title of the post was "Need Search Function For Blu-ray.com Forums! Help"

seriously though, depending on your setup I would go with something more than that... even if you're paying $200, its worth it to protect your kit

Agreed.

You don't want to skimp on protecting your system. Many people have HT power centers that combine a surger protector, power conditioner, and a UPS all in one unit.

Monster, Furman, Panamax, Belkin.....take your pick
spend 100.00 min... you will get your money back in longer life and better performance.. Make sure power, cable, phone, and network are all running into the surge protector. (as your system uses) No sense locking the front door and leaving the back open.

Go with a good brand, don't loose your investment to cutting corners. Monster will do fine, search your local Craigslist or E-bay.

I agree, get it new. This is what I have Monster Power Reference 3600 MK2

I paid $350 for it, so it's a steal right now at $206 with $12 shipping.

Thats a great price. People should not pass it up. I picked mine up from amazon a while back for 236. I've been thinking of running a ups inline with this.

After reading this thread and another on power conditioners I am lost. I currently have (see my sig) and want piece of mind that my equipment is (for the most part) protected. I am using a Monster Power - Home Theatre Surge Protector ($50). Is it enough? Do I need a power conditioner, a UPS or just a better surge protector (or am I ok)? Thanks.

you should be fine with what you have, but you get what you pay for... power conditioners eliminate electrical noise, better surge protectors offer better protection, etc.

Power conditioners are good because they clean up the power and there is usually a noticeable difference in both your AQ and PQ.

I have a Monster Power Reference 1600 MK2 (paid $200 6 months ago) that I'm about to put on Ebay for $100 (used it for six months before I got the 3600 on sale). It's a great unit, just less ports than the 3600 (8 vs 10) and a little less joule protection. Let me know if you're interested. $90 plus shipping for any Blu-ray.com forum member that wants it.

what this guy said! The 3600 is a $500 unit. Snatch that up!

Monster or panamax are my two favorites. Basically, the more you spend in those lines the more outlets you get (duh), the more and better the filters are, and the longer the connected equipment warranty is.

If you can get a NEW 3600 for $228 and don't you should soak your head.

Should i still buy this unit since money is an issue and buying new is not going to happen till years end? And from what others are saying is that this will in fact inprove the PQ on my XBR5??? thanks for your help
