Default Are these companies that put out terrible quality blu's going to remaster them??

i was wondering if these companies that put out embarassing PQ and AQ blu-ray's going to remaster them.. or it is what it is and were basically S**t out of luck...anybody know?

i.e. T2, Last Samurai, The Thing, Signs, Predator, Point Break, Man on Fire, Die Hard 1,2,3, Elf.... just a few i can think of off hand that could be MUCH better

I think T2 and the Die Hard movies look great. Also film = grain.

What's wrong with The Thing? That got a great transfer, both picture and audio. Never looked or sounded better. The film grain is barely noticeable. Not to mention some of the others you listed. Maybe you're just being to picky.

Man on Fire got a 4.5 for PQ https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/movie...14&show=review

Grain isn't all bad either

If you haven't seen any of the BDs you listed and are just going by what reviewers say, trying renting one and forming your own opinion. Reviews are nice, but I know there are a few BDs I love that have bad reviews and if I had let them influence my decision to buy the BD well, I wouldn't have bought it.

reivews do help though, i doubt anyone one is posting false information... ive went on the blu-rayhighdefdigest, and bracke abused some of the movies i named, however some people on this website disagree,im not saying bracke is correct with his infomration.. i see where your coming from with renting it first, but shouldnt these movies be top notch to begin with considering their blu ray?? it would keep people from second guessing buying it.. or having to rent it first just to make sure.. thats just my opinion

i could be spoiled,, i own narnia, pirates 1,2, no country for old men, kill bill... and ive bought these basically going on reviews.. the majority felt they were amzing PQ and AQ, and their some of my favorites.. im holding back on a few no because of the reivews. havnet got around to renting them yet but i will... Last Samurai is my favorite movie and it had good and bad reivews... so i dunno , mad confusing

If I was you I'd stop reading those reviews. Rent 'em! You'll be glad you did. Don't miss out on a movie just because you read that they are bad. That's terrible. Judge them for yourself.

Case in point: My sister loves the movie 30 Days of Night but she told me the blu-ray video quality was in her words "blah". So we watched the movie together and I thought it looked great. If I didn't watch the movie just because she convinced me the movie quality was bad, I would have missed out on a pretty dope movie.

That would be your problem. Bracke, imo, has some of the most off-base reviews of Blu-rays out there. I've seen a few that were horrible, i.e. The Punisher and the original release of Full Metal Jacket, but the ones I've seen that you named were actually great imo. I would love to see a better copy of The Punisher, I still refuse to buy that one.

It's supposed to look that way. The grainy, blown out look was what TOny Scott was going for.

Die Hard WAV I would argue is one of the best catalog releases out there. A great example of how poorly some DVD's were made, as the DVD version is absolutely teeming with edge enhancement.

Film grain isn't a bad thing. It is normal. If you can't get used to it then you are never going to enjoy Blu-ray. Or any other high-def movie format.

I think we're deviating from the topic here. I think a good example of what the OP was asking is what they did with The Fifth Element on blu-ray. They released it, realized it was a bad transfer, then re-released it with a much better transfer. Every time I see a bad to not so good transfer I can't help but wonder if they will do the same thing. Excellent question, but I think your examples just threw everyone off.

I agree. Just bad examples. Man On Fire and The Thing are two of the strongest I own. And Point Break and Predator are never going to look better.

To give a different example, I would love to see The Italian Job some day get a decent transfer and re-release, like The 5th Element.

Full speaking for Sony here. Most of the first release from them were cheap old 10 years old HD master. What they did with 5th Element is re-scanned it with a new machine. All their transfert is done with this scanner model right now.

Some older movie that aren't 70mm will be stuck with crappy quality forever..

Soo...you haven't seen any of these films on Blu Ray, so this whole thread is moot?

By the way, The Last Samurai looks awesome on Blu Ray, and it even got great reviews. Do some searching!

Pretty much every title released in 2006 and even some from early 2007 have to be re-released because MPEG on a BD25 is not a good combination.

I.e. T2 doesn't includes the extended cut, neither lossless audio despite that it's an action packed film. Besides practically none of the bunch of extras found on the different DVD versions were included. (only 2 commentaries)

Another example is Crash, it dropped every extra included on the 2 Disc DVD, c'mon even the single disc DVD included an audio commentary and some featurettes.

Finally Rocky: it's barebones. The 2 disc DVD contains hours and hours of worthy material on the movie but the BD got, what? a theatrical trailer in Fullscreen!

Those are only 3 of many examples of half-assed BD's. Yeah they look better than their DVD counterparts, but when compared with the newest BD releases it seems that they belongs to a long gone era.
