Well first you need to set a price range. Then room conditions to decide between Plasma, LCD, etc... Give more information, or someone might say, go out and buy this TV that cost $7000. More than likely, you are not going to do that.

Well i would suggest lcd or dlp if you say your gonna do gaming. That way no burn in or image retention issues.
I know people will say plasma doesn't burn in and the image retention is not that big of a deal.
I had a plasma, played call of duty 4 a lot, and i had image retention and it annoyed me.
I have a DLP now and play a lot of call of duty and no image retention or burn in.
Make sure you understand what native resolution is. Will you be happy with spending less money on a 720p or do you want to get an HDTV that will go full 1080p. Its just personal prefrence but make sure you get the one you want.

And yes call of duty world at war looks amazing on my samsung as well

LCD's are not susceptible to burn in. They can however have temporary ghosting if an image is left on for several hours without movement, but once the picture is moved or turned off the ghosting will dissipate shortly.

Yes, they are, though it would take longer for this to happen than with plasma. I thought I had a link (but I don't) to the article dobyblue has posted numerous times showing an LCD monitor with severe burn-in.

We shouldn't even waste our time anymore. The OP posted this without any indication of price, other uses, room conditions, etc...

Definitely plasma because of virtually no delay time in compare to LCD and therefore much better with fast paced scenes. The colors look more natural as well with superior blacks.

pwned.

I suggest going to a store, looking at them all and find out what works for you.

Bigger is not always better. I also wouldn't get anything unless it is 1080P.

Default You nubs need to learn how to drink the water

LCD does not burn in...

show me a computer monitor with burn in...
it must take years of constant static images to burn in to an LCD cuz I've never seen it.

Also after 100 hours, most plasma's are no longer susceptible to burn in...
and new modern day plasma's have built in features to help prevent burn in..
dont be afraid to buy a TV because of burn in... buy the tv you feel has the best picture. which in most cases will be a plasma, samsung, pioneer or panasonic. be careful of the samsung 550 and 650's though... they have major issues.. want to know more. pm or something... k later noobs

I have a NEW Samsung 860 LCD and Page 34 of the Users Guide specifically states:

"Temporary image retention may occur when viewing a static image on the set for more than two hours."

I guess it comes down to semantics. While burn in is typically geared towards phosphor based TV's, image retention is the same thing. However, IR can possibly be used more widely as LCD can "retain an image" after prolonged use of static images.

Is it as common with LCD's, probably not. But to say that an LCD doesn't experience this is just wrong, inaccurate and misleading.
