Default Has blu-ray brought you back into gaming?

I use to be a big gaming freak up until high school and college when girls and booze took over as my fav past time. I was a big Nes, Sega genesis and Snes gamer back in the day and then played some ps1 and n64 with my roommates in college but after that I pretty much stopped gaming all together for a decade until this last year when I picked up a ps3 for a blu ray player. I tried out RFOM and now I am hooked on gaming and feel like a kid again. The best part about it is that I have a 7yr old (loves his ps2 btw) and we can both share in the ps3s sweet goodness together.

Thanks SONY

Actually yes, especially lately. I've been using my PS3 as a Blu-Ray player only. Then my halfbrother gave me a couple of games to try and I got hooked on a couple of them. So I went out and got Uncharted and Lego Star Wars and have been playing them every day. I am actually on my second run through of Uncharted on a harder difficulty.

Nice to hear your back into your gaming, the PS3 is a truly formidable machine in both the gaming & movie scene atm because of the decent slew of exclusives & the much higher quality of Blu-rays like the POTC trilogy, The day after tommorow which have shown outstanding PQ & games like Uncharted that are showing what the PS3 is capable of & now getting decent Multi Plat releases like COD4 & Assassins Creed

The Futures bright on the PS3, we got Home to look forward to & a whole load of exclusive games in 2008, MGS, Haze, UT3(timed exclusive), FFXIII & the list goes on

Even multi platform games should be coming out now that are identical on both systems & thats a good thing.

just high definition TV in general brought me back to gaming. i had a few games for the PS2 but never played them anymore. hooked it up to the TV via component and it looked like garbage. then i caught wind of games soon to be in 720 and 1080 and then heard that UT3 was coming down the road in HD. it was a no brainer at that point. i am so hooked on my games now. gaming in HD is amazing! i love my PS3

I have not been into consoles since PS1. I have just been a casual PC gamer playing games like Half Life, Neverwinter over the years. Since I bought my PS3 I have been playing way more games. Even playing older PS2 games. I recently bought a Xbox360 now as well. I really feel like getting the PS3 and a new tv was the best purchase I have made in years.

I think HDTV brought me back into gaming and buying movies, as well as watching more TV again (I get a headache everytime that I'm forced to watch football or hockey in SD).

I wouldn't have bought in if it weren't for the promise of the PS3, though.

The scary thing is that Uncharted and Heavenly Sword, generally considered to be the two most taxing games for the PS3, are still only showing a fraction of what the PS3 is truly capable of. The PS3 has yet to break a sweat.

To answer the original question, the PS3 didn't bring me back into gaming (I've always been a PC gamer) or even console gaming (I bought the Wii on launch day...my first console since SNES), but it definitely has made me pay more attention to the gaming industry as a whole. It's interesting watching developers slowly start to favour and develop for the PS3.

For some, the PS3 was a game player that also played Blu-ray...

For me (who never owned a game machine since 1997), the 60G PS3 was a Blu-ray player that also played PS2/3--
Now, to make up for lost time...

Yeah its crazy, I haven't played video games in a few years. I was looking for my high definition solution over Black Friday and then I heard about the secret walmart sale for ps3 + 15 blu ray movies and 1 included game for $499. I said hmm Im staring at a larger selection of blu-ray and they are going to throw in tons of movies to watch plus streaming media and more. Thats my choice now! Now of course that I have a ps3, I have registered with gamefly and bought some games too.

EDIT: to be exact, I stopped playing video games 6-7 months into the original XBOX's lifecycle.

I remember how people claimed that PS2 was a multimedia centre. I always was quick to dismiss such claims.

Now, PS3... that's what I call a true multimedia centre!

The original xbox is what really got me back into gaming, at least on consoles. Want to know the reason? Because the xbox touted HD capabilities. Unfortunately, it took 2 years to get a 1080i title and then only a handful of other titles came out. At least 99% of the games were 480p. But I was really wanting true HD gaming which the PC has given me since the mid 90's. This gen, I previewed the 360 before it came out and wasn't impressed. I've always been a hardcore PC gamer so seeing what the 360 could do didn't really impress me. So I held off until I could see the PS3. Again the launch wasn't great but I finally jumped at the start of this year, mostly because of the Blu-ray player. I felt I wasted thousands of dollars on games for the xbox that I only played once so I wasn't going to do that again. I joined Gamefly and now I find myself playing games on the PS3 more than on the Xbox or even PC. I've been quite impressed with what has started to come out. Still some annoyances and it sucks waiting for key features to be implemented but overall, I think I'll have a PS3 in my house for at least 5 years. I really look forward to seeing what this thing can do in the future, mostly because of the extra storage space of BD.

Default Brought me in as well

Last console video games I played was the sega genesis. I played some pc video games, but not in the last 4 years or so. Then the ps3 came, and I have been hooked. I think it has a lot to do with where I was it in my life though. With College/working through college, and beer there was no time for video games.

How far back do I go?:
I won a Sega Genesis in a college contest, bought the "new" CD-ROM plug-in, and never got around to buying the Saturn, since I didn't want to encourage the obnoxious ad agency.

I watched any hopes of Dreamcast go under right around the same time as somebody came out with that "emulator" program to play PS1 on the iMac--
And got to become culturally grounded in FFVII and Parasite Eve, just before the PS2 came out, Sony sued the patch-software maker, and they never made a PS2 iMac emulator.

(Like I said, I've got a lot of gaming to catch up on between the movies--
Starting with most of Final Fantasy X-XII, with maybe a little Parappa the Rapper in between.)
