Default Blu-Ray Hookup (Non-HDMI Receiver)

First, thanks for any responses--first post here.

I have a 46 inch Samsung LCD (1080p) and my receiver is an NAD T744 with no HDMI inputs. I am looking at finally getting a Blu-ray player, but am not ready to sink $1,000 into a new receiver. The home theater company who set up my system suggested that I could connect the player to the TV with the HDMI cable for high def video and then run either a coaxial audio or optical audio cable from the player to the receiver.

Any suggestions or thoughts?

Thats what I had for a while. HDMI from the player to TV for all your pretty movies and then just an optical cable from the player to receiver. That will give you the surround and should keep you happy till you get an upgrade.

well i cant find a complete description on your receiver. if it has a 5.1 or 7.1 analog in, i would get a blu ray player that can internally decode the audio and has analog outputs. this way you can still get hd audio. you dont have to spend 1k on a receiver with hdmi. there are ones a lot cheaper
