I have a Sony 40v2500 TV, it has HDMI in the back that I intend to hook up to my Sony Blu Ray 550. My HK AVR630 does not have HDMI . I have gone through hundreds of threads here and am more confused than when I started. I was going to use optical from Blu to receiver , then I read somewhere about using the speaker direct inputs on my receiver for better sound. The 550 does have the speaker outputs in the back. This provides the best sound experience? Also, will the Blu ray configure my sound to the receiver or must I redo it myself?
I know, buy a new receiver. Just not an option right now. Unless I find a great deal. Thanks for any help you provide this stressed out female. Last edited by Becka; 01-02-2009 at 04:57 PM. |

the outputs on the Blu-ray go to the receiver inputs, not speakers
http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...-30648765.html If I read your spec's correctly, you would plug the audio outs (6) from the player to the line audio in's of your receiver. Using the optical would limit you to no HD codac's. You need 6 short rca - rca cables Last edited by gearyt; 01-02-2009 at 05:29 PM. |

you player has all the decoding for hd audio. you just have to configure it to output pcm and not bitstream (which it for optical). you can use the analog outs of the player for the analog ins on your receiver. assuming you know how to assign inputs if needed, it shouldnt be too difficult. and you wouldnt really have to buy a new receiver. also make sure that your equipment is up to date with firmware.

Use the 7.1 outputs on your Blu-Ray player to feed into the 7.1 external inputs on the receiver. This will allow your player to do the HD audio decoding and send it as analog signals to the receiver for amplification.
I'll probably get flamed for this but you would probably be just fine connecting the optical output of the player to the optical input of your receiver. Set your player to bitstream and you'll still get full surround sound. This won't give you the HD sound but will still allow you full DD or DTS surround using the classic codecs at higher bitrates than you would find on traditional DVD. I use both connections on mine and can barely tell a difference between them. My reason is because: 1: My Samsung 2550 doesn't decode DTS HD-MA so I might as well let the receiver decode the traditional DTS to be able to use the additional digital sound features in my non-HDMI Denon receiver, and 2: Netflix only streams in stereo, so to be apply to apply PLII or DTS:Neo6 to the stereo sound, I have to feed it in via optical. The 7.1 analog inputs are direct to the amp with no processing so if I only get sound coming in via L/R, then those are the only two speakers on when I use the 7.1 inputs. However, because there is a slightly noticable improvement on DD-TrueHD tracks, I do use the analog 7.1 inputs for that. |

I do have the analog out and inputs on both my receivers and Blu. I see that connecting my receiver and Blu up with the analog ins and outs will be my best option for sound quality. As far as reconfiguring my inputs from my receiver I may be out of luck. HK doesn't seem to have firmware updates for me. Last time I checked anyways.
Will redoing the input affect any of my other electronics listening preferences? |

I will be going to purchase RC cables to hook it up via the in and outs on my 8 channel output. From what I can see in my manual the system will configure for me. I will go through the process just in case.
I truly appreciate the very quick response. I was stressed. Hopefully while I am out I won't buy a new receiver. One more ?. Does anyone know where I can find out how to hook up my Scientific Atlanta 8300 to my system? I just want to check and make sure the Cable rep. did it right. He seemed crabby and in a hurry. Left me no info. |

Guess I'll look at receivers while I am at BB. My hubby will kill me. I am the electronics nut in the house. Darn it all. I have Champagne taste on a beer budget.
Too be honest, I just hate my HK. Had a NAD before. Maybe I'll check out Denon. I could spend all day on this site! You people are brilliant! Thanks for distressing me before the wine had too. Thanks too for the welcome. |

Sure, I can supply wine, Santa delivered.
I am not having ANY luck with my set up so far. Some how I no longer get OSD from my receiver. Cable co. is useless for SA8300 set up help. I wanted to use HDMI from SA8300 to TV . They have component cables running from cable box to TV. Nothing but audio runs to receiver. Is that correct? I thought it would run to my component area on receiver? Blu ray not being recognized. Wine Bar @ 6? |
