Default Dolby Pro Logic

If pro logic II better than pro logic I in all case, why do some receivers still have the option for us to pick pro logic I? Isn't pro logic II always the choice? Or there is exception? I heard that even pro logic I games/audio can be upmix to pro logic II automatically by the processor, then there should be no need for pro logic I to be in the option, right? Or I missed something?

I mean when I bought a new system that have prologic II, it also have another option of picking prologic I... what's the point? Just for completeness sake? Or there are hidden benefit?

Dolby Pro Logic was created as one of the first home theater codecs and a few VHS movies had the codec for very basic surround sound. Pro Logic II was developed to convert two-channel sound to multi-channel sound. It has three modes: Movies, Music, & Games. Dolby Digital was created for Laser Disc & Broadcast TV and later for DVD.

If you have two-channel music or movies, try Dolby Pro Logic II. The results are very pleasing.

Read A Guide to Home Theater Audio Codecs.
