Sony BDP-S550 and receiver - Blu-ray Forum

Do I need a receiver in order to get lossless audio from the Sony BDP-S550 player? I plan on just plugging in my sound system to the analogue outputs. And should I get a receiver in the future? Would it make much of a difference?

and does it have 5.1 analog inputs?

It an old 5.1 HTiB it has 5.1 analogue imputs yes. I will be using that for a few months then upgrading speakers to individual krix speakers and subwoofer.

do you already have the S550?

...yes, you will get HD audio through your HTiB with the analog inputs. But your speakers may hold potential back.
