Default My engine is dying!!!

#(*%&#()%*&q(#)%(

Last night, I went to drop off my wife's brother at home and I turned the car on. The oil light stayed on and the engine was knocking. I took it to my friend and he said the piston is getting ready to break through and the engine will seize if I keep driving it.

This is horrible. It's my daily driver to work. My wife's older brother said it's because of the engine flush I had done.

Every manufacturer is having deals right now, because none of them are selling.

2k for an engine swap installed.

That would be a down payment for a new car.

Sorry to here that Mike but he is right you should never flush your engine especially one with a lot of miles. 2,000 isn't bad for an engine swap but just make sure that the engine that you are getting was running and not sitting in a junk yard somewhere not running.

We're going to the Honda dealer tomorrow to look at Fit's. I'm so depressed. This was the first car I ever bought on my own.

what kind of car is it?

I have always owned Honda( except for my EVO, and because if it, I will NEVER NEVER EVER buy a Mitsubishi car again. worst car dealers, customer service and the car has had quite a few warranty issues.) and have always been very happy with them. I am seriously thinking of trading the EVO for a Honda. A civic is not that much more than a fit and if gas millage is an issue, the civic gets 30-40MPG.

Honda Fit...Toyota Corolla or Nissan Versa...should all be in the same price range for the basic model and should all be getting you around the same gas mileage ..good luck

Might want to do yourself a favor and take a look at the VW Rabbit lineup. If you go online and do a comparison you can see all the standard features each has and compare it to a Fit. For all the standard features and overall safety features on the VW, it's hard to overlook that. And odds are, the VW will be less than a fully loaded (and less features than the VW) Honda Fit. And build quality is night and day. I own 3 VW's and will never go back to Japanese cars. Once you drive one, you'll understand.

Either way, good luck. There are some great deals out there right now.

Every VW I ever worked on was built like crap. Particularly the bugs, most of those had the finish chipping off the doors.

The Fit was one of my considerations when we were looking at cars last year. Has a lot of space for a little car, and has a good amount of pep for the little amount of power it has.

VW, no way. Nice cars, but expensive to maintain.

Well a friend of mine said to file a complaint with the Better Business Bureau.

It's weird because before I took it to a mechanic after I heard the sound, he told me right away it was a piston rod and sure enough he was right. He said that since the flush was not performed correctly then it would cause the problems and that I should file a complaint.

It looked really bad under the valve cover. It was caked over in sludge like someone had poured hot fudge all over it.

We will see what happens.

Don't get a Nissan, they are mostly made in France these days and their quality has decreased greatly since that happened. The only car still made in Japan that is exported is the GTR.

Bugs are made in Mexico. Enough said about that (as are the Jettas). Rabbits, Touregs, Passats and Tiguans are made in the EU and are in a totally different league.

As far as maintenance goes, I don't know. The only money I've spent is for the oil and filter ($72).

I looked at a Fit to buy for my son. The interior fit and finish reminded me of that plastic that you get inside a box of chocolates that keeps the chocolates from touching each other. There's cheap, but sometimes there's too cheap. Civic was marginally better, but priced way to much for what you got.

Well, one of my cars is a 2004 Honda Civic. It's far from perfect. The factory tires were absolute crap. You couldn't even keep the thing on the road. Very hard rubber. They want to impress the new owner by how long the tires will last, rather than how well they handle or stick to the road. The original front brakes (rotors & pads) wore out in 30,000 miles and the 2nd set developed problems with hard spots on the rotors at the 60,000 mile mark. So on went another set of pads and rotors. Recently I took notice that the both lower control arm bushings are torn. Lastly it's the least fun to drive car I've ever had.

My other two cars are VW's. I admit they have their problems, but at least they are fun to drive.

What? France? Obviously you made that up. They have an alliance with Renault from France. Nissan has zero manufacturing plants there. As you can see by reading the list here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Nissan.

Also many are made in America. http://www.edmunds.com/advice/buying...5/article.html

Now, your statement about quality is true IMO.

How long do you expect them to last? That's about the average lifespan for brakes IMO. Also, it depends how you drive the car. I had a BMW I had to change the pads on at at 22,000 miles!

I think Max is in the UK. Their market is different than the US.

Godofblu, my sister has a 2004 Civic, and the tires on that car are Bridgestone. Talk about a horrible ride. Something like in the Flintstones. Trying to convince her to get rid of them (they are original tires and she has 18,000 miles on them) but she's a tightwad and will probably wear them until the air can be seen.

Saturn 91 SC2 90k before front pads needed replacement.
Both my Jetta & Passat usually get 60k for front pads.
My previous Toyota Corolla got 70K on the front pads.

These aren't performance cars, just family and commuter cars. BMW doesn't care how long pads last, just how fast they can stop. In the case of the Honda, stopping distance wasn't that great. Both of my VW's have much better performing brakes.
