Default Emotiva UPA-7

I will purchase an Onkyo 706 model this month and I was wanting some input from you guys about my choices. I have a budget of $1,500 for upgrades this year. Should I let the Onkyo power my system? Or should I let the Emotiva UPA-7 push my Polk Audio RTi speakers as an add on to the 706? Would the 906 be a better choice?

Thanks in advance for your input.

Landry

Great question, I don't know, but I wanna hear about your subwoofer- I'm thinking of purchasing that as my next upgrade (NSD version).

I can honestly say that the SVS 10" sub is a brute! I can't say anything negative about it at all. Do it.

I would get the EMOTIVA to power those nice polk speakers you have !! The sound Quality would be so much better ! When I got my UPA-7 it was amazing how much clearer and defined every tone is !! I wish I would have gotten my amp A long time ago !!!

If money is not an issue, buy the Emotiva. There is no question that you will get better results with a separate amplifier. Here are a couple of threads on Emotiva:

Would the Harmon Kardon AVR-254 do for a good pre amp for the Emotiva?

As long as it has pre-outs for all the channels, it should be ok.

Price difference. I own an older Onkyo (tx sr601) with no pre outs. I am getting the pre amp and Emotiva at the same time.

I was saying compared to the Harmon Kardon AVR-254. I have never looked at the HK's and I'm just wondering what the difference between th 254 and 605 are?

I really like the new Onkyo line, but I've also always liked HK. Not sure what all the differences are, but I'm pretty sure the 254 can do OSD over HDMI (i.e., adjusting volume will show up on screen over the picture). For the price of the 254, that right there is a selling point for me if I were to choose between the two.

However, I think the OP should wait for the Emotiva UMC-1 pre-pro if budget allows.

The 605 does not have pre outs and the 254 does.
From my reads, I found that the HK has pre-outs and hdmi inputs. The Onkyo does as well, but there is a nice difference in price. I can save a few extra dollars by getting the HK, but I like the Onkyo better. I may end up with the Onkyo 706 anyway. Just curious about the performance of the 254.
