Smile Pioneer Kuro PRO-151FD ?

I am looking to upgrade my SONY 46XBR3 and get the Pioneer PRO-151FD 60 inch plasma, but I had a few questions. I live in Colorado Springs and I hear that high altitudes cause plasmas to buzz. Does anyone have this TV or its little brother the Pioneer Elite Kuro PRO-111FD and if so does it buzz? Can someone tell me where I can get the best price for this TV? I have seen it for as low as $4995.00, I have read numerous reviews that this 60 inch and 50 inch Pioneer are the best High Def TVS (LCD or Plasma) on the market. If you have either of these models please let me know if your happy with them.

My 6020 (production date Nov, 08) do have a slight buzz coming from the rear of the panel when the power saver option is turned off. However, the buzzing goes away if I set it to the powersave mode 2. It is a pretty common problem with these sets.
When buying those advertised $4,995 price, I'd double check to see if they are an authorized dealers, as many are not. Pioneer has a policy for retailers of their Elite line of product to sell them locally (within 200 mile radius). If you don't buy from an authorized dealer, you may not get the 2 year warranty that the unit come with.

Default Plasma & Altitude l

Hello

I used to professionally install plasmas in Colorado, especially including Aspen and Vail; which are quite high comparatively, being almost twice your altitude.

Specifically, Panasonic rates their panels to 9,100 ft., which is fine for Aspen and Vail; certainly quite a buffer for your requirement.

While I cannot confirm until Monday, but I would expect that Pioneer is comparable in this regard as well, and has been for many years, long before the Kuro products were designed. This is a problem that was presented with an engineering solution about a decade ago, when the first units developed the de-laminating of the cells that causes the problem at altitude.

Panels have had this rating for almost ten years now; however, it is Panasonic that I am most certain about, as I recently contacted them directly for a client in Boulder, Colorado, when an arrogant salesperson in Nebraska argued that the Panasonic Plasma would not work at and altitude similar to Colorado Springs; this was just ten days ago. While I was confidant of the altitude issue; I contacted Panasonic to confirm, which they did.

I will inquire and follow up on Monday to confirm, but I am certain that you can use the Pioneer without concern for altitude related issues.

I hope that this is helpful.

Thank You

Default Altitude l Follow Up l

Hello Again

I just did some quick research; they apparently are rated to only 7,500 ft., which surprises me.

Certainly, you can safely use them at your altitude.

I will still follow up on Monday to confirm directly from Pioneer.

Thank You

Runco, which may of you probably know as a plasma modding operation makes altitude models specifically for the luxury mountain market.

Runco now uses Panasonic as their OEM'er and they rate the dividing line at 8,000 feet.

Further, if you are just going to be using the monitor for video, and you already have an external audio system, consider the Pioneer Elite PRO-141. It is over an inch thinner, and you get the IP control/setup option which is kind of nifty.
