Default Samsung 50" Upgrade?

I have a Vizio 32" now and was looking to upgrade. I found this samsung and was wondering if anybody had it and it was any good. Overall reviews seem positive but I like to hear from people who actually has one.

You should wait a bit, from what I have heard there is suppose to be new samsung plasma models out this year that have 0 image retention.

I own a Samsung LCD, and couldn't be any happier with it. I dont know too much about their plasma sets, but i can say that Samsung is better known for their quality LCD's than their Plasma's. That's not to say that Samsung doesn't make quality plasmas, i just have never owned one.

I must ask you, have you looked into Panasonic plasmas? They are well known for their quality, and many board memebers here have them. I'm in the market for one myself actually.

I have the PN50A550 and love it. Check out the reviews for the 550 as i think the only real difference is 1 less HDMI port (510 only got 2) and maybe a missing feature here or there, but the panel should be the same and from what I have heard just as good a picture as the 550.

I have the 450 which is just 720p but I love it, you can look at my gallery and see some screenshots. There are a few in the main folder as well as some in my screen shot folder.

I love mine, I came from a LG LCD and I really liked it after calibration but blacks were blue and backlight bleed was minimal but annoying to me, this TV is amazing for the price. I paid $900 out the door and couldn't be happier.

So i'm sure the 510 will be amazing, blacks arent kuro black but they are better than people give them credit for.

That is an incorrect statement. The 510 does indeed have a USB port and firmware updates are available.

I purchased one- I love it. The price was what hooked me, as well. But a 1080 picture on a 50 inch plasma? Great deal. I got mine for 1049- they gave me a 200 dollar discount to take a 100 dollar Geek Squad tune up.

It's not mentioned in the specs, so I inspected it at BB and didn't see it. I must have just missed it. I stand corrected and have deleted the offending post.

Default 510 vs 550

510 has one less HDMI port, and a 10W speaker vs a 20W speaker for the 550. Outside finish is slightly different, uses the 450 shape, but is a solid black finish (450 has a grey stripe on it). If you have a receiver with several HDMI inputs, you don't need to listen to the poor sound on the TV and you can switch through various inputs, minimizing the difference between 510 and 550.

According to (admittedly unreliable) specs they both have 10w speakers. I own the 550 and can't find the spec anywhere in my owner's literature. Oh well, they're not being used anyway.
