Default Upgrade to Samsung LN40B630 question?

I currently have a Olevia 242tfhd, that has suprisingly been a decent TV for what it is. However I am getting upgradeitis; Sears has online layaway now. The Samsung LN40B630 which is 120hz with motionflow is only $979.88 and has great reviews on Amazon? Does anyone have this Sammy? Do you think I'll notice a huge difference between the Olevia and The Sammy? Any input would be appreciated. Thanks.

I have had this TV since Oct 2009 and have had no issue with it. Has a great picture. Don't know how it compares to your current TV.

I'll suggest the new model in 46" for the same price, a friend of mine bought it from bb, they price match the price from expo-electronics. The model is ln46c630, and he said the pq is amazing. I think the new models are cheaper and with better contrast from last year model.

Also in amazon they have today the lg with a free bluray player for $1079 with free shipping the model is LG 50PK550, I think the plasma will give you a better pq and a free bd player, I saw the deal in slickdeals.net just search for the tv model.

Thanks. Unfortunatly I have only have room for 42" max. I'b be losing 2 inches, but willing to sacrifice for a better set. Has anyone used Sears layaway before?

I changed my mind. I'm going with the Samsung LN40C630. Its the new 2010 model and is cheaper than the 2009 model. I saw it in Sears yesterday and thought it produced a great picture.

Just got my Sammy LN40C630. WOW. This is my first experience with 120hz and motionflow. I must say I LOVE IT!!! I can see why some don't, kinda takes away the magic a little. Fry's had it on sale for $719.00 so I went to Sears and they price matched, so I got it for $700.00. Pretty damn good deal.

Turn the motion flow off and you probably want to turn down the back light, contrast and brightness too. The manufacturer's want their set to stand out on the sales floor and crank these settings up way too high.

Thanks Sammy. To be honest I prefer the motionflow, I tried all four of its settings. I prefer the "standard" setting so far. I still need to play with the contrast and brightness settings. Thinking I might try a calibration disc.

I'm interested in buying that TV too. Some people over at avsforum reported that the response time wasn't so great. Are you a gamer? What do you think about it?

I just bought the LN55B650 for $1700 (canadian). I was stunned by the picture quality in store (using the cinema setting). I am used to my 720p DLP, and seing Wall-E in 1080p glory has inspired to go ahead with the purchase.

I bought this TV last night and am really blown away.

I shut down every single bell and whistle, and set my sharpness to 0.

Two questions:

1. I still see halos/pixelation around characters when they move (seriously tried about 15 different blu rays from all periods: From "M" to "No Country for Old Men").

2. I have never seen my TV report that it uses more than 60mhz even though I have it set to 120mhz (and there are about 3 different 120mhz settings). Why not? Even the Dark Knight was at 60mhz. Does it kick on an vary from scene to scene? Should I do a custom setting?

Does anyone have a good calibration for this TV?

I think your "halos" are caused by the Motion Interpolation. I also think you have things confused regarding 60Hz/120Hz. Your set ALWAYS produces 120Hz no matter what. The three 120Hz setting you're talking about are the three AutoMotion settings (Standard, Clear, Smooth, Custom). Most people turn if off.

For my part, I set it to "CUSTOM" and put the Blur to 6 and Dejudder to 2-3.

Can I turn that off? Will turning it off cause more problems making it not worth it? or is that something I should just live with?

OK, I will turn it off. Thanks for the tip. What I am talking about is when I start a disc, a box appears on the top left that says "Blu Ray 1920×1080 60Hz". Some discs even say 24Hz.

I will try that first thing when I get home. Thanks for the tip.
