The BDP-S350 models support BonusView (picture-in-picture) featured on some of the Blu-ray Disc theatrical releases. The BDP-S350 models are BD-Live ready featuring an Ethernet port for an easy firmware update and access to Internet-based interactive content features. They also feature an external port for local storage, so users can add optional flash-based memory. The players feature 1080/60p and 24p True Cinema output. They are compatible with most standard DVDs and feature 1080p upscaling through an HDMI connection to capable HDTV sets, improving the picture performance of existing DVD libraries.

The BDP-S350 models offer 7.1 channel Dolby TrueHD and Dolby digital plus decoding and bit-stream output, as well as dts-HD high resolution audio and master audio bit-stream output. The players support AVCHD discs encoded with x.v.Color (xvYCC) technology, an international standard for wide color space reproduction. The standard expands the current data range of video by about 1.8 times, allowing the players to output more natural and vivid colors similar to what the human eye can actually see. The players also feature compatibility with an array of video formats, including BD-R/RE (BDMV and BDAV modes), DVD+R/+RW, DVD-R/-RW (video mode), CD, CD-R/RW (CD-DA format), and JPEG on DVD/CD recordable media

I didn't think it offered all of the Hi Def audio codecs, but it's a decent player. I'd personally recommend the S550

This model is perfect for one of those :

- You don't care about sound quality and DD and DTS just fine with you
- You don't have a receiver with 5.1 analog in
- You're sound is connected to you're TV
- You plan to upgrade you're receiver to a HDMI One in the next year (with HD codec)

The S550 is perfect if :

- You got a receiver with 5.1 or 7.1 analog input

Np!... i said that because this model will only bitstream DTS HD MA and TrueHD to a compatible receiver, while the S550 decode them all and can be used with a receiver that have 5.1/7.1 analogs in..

Can you please explain why it's for people who don't care about sound quality? If you have a receiver that is HDMI capable and it can decode all formats what is wrong with having an S350?

This was for people without Analog IN or HDMI. A lot of people just don't care about DTS HD MA and Truehd or getting better sound. I mean most young people listen to MP3 all days.

In that matter, the S350 output DD and DTS from any Blu-ray movies. To some it's just fine and they wont change receiver until their current one blow.

A lot of people are on their Speaker TV and are perfectly fine with that.

I replied to say that the S350 Bitstream Everything in a HDMI Receiver.

So in that essence the S550 is a waste of money unless you use the Analog Outs..

I know that the S350 BITSTREAM i own one.

I just said that if you don't care about sound, there's no POINT of getting the S550, so get the S350. And if you care , UPGRADE you're Receiver to a HDMI one and you're set..

The player is ok. pretty much most name brand does the basic which you stated. Just some higher end models do not do the BD live 2.0. But the picture is out of this word. The Denons, Sony ES, & Pioneer Elite. Why settle for less. Exsperience blu ray in all its glory. If your display can handle it. If your display is limited. Then it doesn't matter what blu ray you get.

Your questions are undeniable. The Sony BDP-S350 WILL send the native bitstream for all audio codecs and multichannel LPCM via HDMI, so an up-to-date receiver which decodes all the options, including lossless Dolby Digital TrueHD and DTS HD-Master Audio will provide fine, lossless audio.

Sure, the S350 doesn't have the multichannel analog outputs that some audiophiles understandably really like (and even prefer), but keeping the audio in the digital realm via HDMI until decoding is a little less complicated, and is what HDMI is all about.

I think the S350 is very nice player.

Picture quality with Blu ray discs is great. Upscaling picture quality with SD DVDs is very good, too.

When it comes to audio quality, I hope my comments here don't ruffle too many feathers (that is not my intent). I feel more important than what codec is being used (Dolby Digital, DTS, Dolby TrueHD, DTS-HD, etc) is your type of loudspeaker, amplifier power, and the way your loudspeakers are set up in your room.

Standard DD or DTS on Blu ray is capable of delivering excellent performance.

In short, if you have an older receiver, don't fret that the S350 won't decode DTS-HD.

The most important thing in my book about the S350 is how fast it "boots up" and the speed at which it loads discs. I don't think any other stand-alone Blu ray player can match its performance (even those costing much more).

I am very happy with my 350. It does everything I expected it to do at a reasonable price.
