subwoofer clipping- AUDIO MOD needed

Hi my Subwoofer was clipping during playback whilst watching taken,

i contacted the sub manufacturer- and had a reply from the owner believe it or not.

here is his advise- can someone suggest how i go about adjusting some of the settings in my amp, it is a denon 1909 and here is the guidance i received

I believe the sub is cutting out because its amplifier has reached 300W output at the frequency you need to play. I know it may be set at 1/4, but that does not reflect the level coming from your receiver.

1. Try reducing the level from the receiver until you can turn the volume control on the subwoofer to maximum. Control the level only from the receiver.
2. Turn the low and high filters to a different position to reduce the amplification at the frequency that causes such a high level of boost to make the amplifier cut-out.
3. Make sure you are not using the LFE output on the receiver that automatically boosts the low frequencies, causing the amplifier to overload.
4. Check that the receiver is not boosting the low frequencies, which would is normally done to make small subwoofers sound as if they can play low frequencies. The ELS Sub already boosts low frequencies and does not work correctly if it is previous done in the receiver as well.
5. Seek advice from the retailer who sold you both pieces of equipment.[/I][/I][/I][/I]

If you haven't done so, calibrate your speakers/subwoofer throught the receiver's menu.
If you have calibrated your speakers and the subwoofer is still too loud and clips, do the following:

• On the back of the subwoofer, turn the volume to 50% or less.
• On the back of the subwoofer, turn the crossover frequency dial all the way up to its maximum point. The crossover frequency is set in the receiver's menu.
• Go to the receivers menu and in the Manual Setup where you select speaker sizes and channel levels, lower the level of the subwoofer. For example, if the subwoofer level is set at +6dB, lower it to +3dB.
• Also set the crossover Frequency to 80Hz.
• In the receiver's Manual Setup menu, there should be an option for Audio Setup.
• Go there and pick Ext.In Setup.
• Select Subwoofer Level.
• Most probably, the level is set around +15 dB.
• Lower it to +10dB.

You need to experiment to get the perfect settings for your speakers/subwoofers so that you hear good bass without clipping.

If you are not hearing good bass, do not necessarily turn the volume of the subwoofer up. The solution may be in moving the subwoofer to a different location. Subwoofer location in the room plays an important role in the kind of bass that you hear.
