Default Should I wait a month to upgrade?

I've been relentlessly researching mid-range recievers and have learned a few things:

ONKYO TX-SR606 : Great sound, 4 HDMI inputs, poor Video processing

Pioneer VSX-1018AH-K: Great sound, only 3 HDMI inputs, crappy remote and GUI

Sony STR-DG920: Very slightly lesser sound quality then two above but better GUI and solid Video processing.

I am leaning towards the Pioneer until I saw the Pioneer VSX-1019AH-K being released in around April 2009 for only $499!

http://reviews.cnet.com/av-receivers...ml?tag=box4505

I am wondering if I should wait for the 1019 or see if the other 3 drop in price this year?

What do you think?

Onkyo- How much video processing are you doing here, realistically?

Pioneer- GUI isn't something you use much. Remote- does anyone use the original remote?

Sony- see above. Are you using this for audio or for video?

It doesn't hurt to wait since you have a specific model in mind. Just understand when it comes out, someone will find something wrong with it. You need to determine your uses and jump in on one eventually.

If your mind is set on the new Pioneer, wait a month or so. This way, you will not have any regrets or worry about upgrading in a couple of months.

I'm wondering why the 1019 is $100 cheaper then the 1018?

i was too impatient to wait for the 606... so I got the 705 and couldnt be happier... so its really hard to say... you could love it or regret it regardless of which receiver you get

For the record, if you are willing to go a bit higher, I got a Sony STR-DA2400ES A/V Receiver for $525 from dealcost.com. They currently have it for a bit more, but the price varies over time. It's a nice receiver.

What kind of video processing are you talking about doing at the recevier level? my curiousity is peaked due to your comment on the onkyo 606.

I would think if this was a big feature you needed that you would have a stand alone video processor or be upgrading more than an extry level receivers.

I have an onkyo 606, but I don't use it for upconversion, so I can't comment on the quality. As far as HDMI sources sending 720, 1080 signals.

The reason the Pioneer 1019 is cheaper than the Pioneer 1018, is that Pioneer has removed quite a bit from the 1019. They took out the Faroudja DCDI video processing, Elite quality internal circuitry & Amp section, 7.1 pre-outs, 1 component input, 1 toslink input, has 5.1 Multi CH inputs instead of the 1018's 7.1 Multi CH inputs, weighs 9lbs lighter than the 1018, etc.( all features the 1018 shared with its Pioneer Elite(01TXH/03TXH)siblings & not its lower end siblings(918,818,518) ). The 1018 was basically a Pioneer Elite VSX-01TXH/VSX-03TXH receiver without the Elite badge, THX certification, S-video inputs, push open front panel video input cover, RS-232C, 12Volt triggers, etc. The 1018(AKA "the Poor Man's Pioneer Elite" ) is an overall better deal than the 1019. Don't let the addition of an extra HDMI input be the deciding factor.

Oh guys, I was just mearly commenting on the pro's and con's of each brand and model at the time from what I read on different forums. I prolly wont be doing any up-converting. Mainly I am leaning towards a Pio 1018, but with the new 1019 coming out, I was wondering if it would be worth the wait or not.

I have a feeling the 1018 is a better option at this point.

If those are your three choices, then buy the 1018 and don't look back.

Well, I went the Onkyo route. They had a sale on them at a local furniture store for $425 plus 18 months no interest financing if I used my Store card. T

They had the Sony there too, but not the Pioneer. I really wanted the Pioneer, but they seem to be getting scarce and the financing won me over.

I have a Onkyo Ht-R430 reciever already which I hooked up in my bedroom to my computer so I have some experience with Onkyo recievers. Guess thats what tipped my hand to the 606.

thanks very much for the feedback, guys!

1. Didnt have to pay shipping sense I was next town over
2. It was rushed out to me right after I orderd it

I feel the 606 is a really good workhorse of a receiver. No, it's not to be confused with the Pioneer, but it does the job very well. I do have the 605 and love it, but no pre-outs Does the 606 have pre-outs?

pre outs = go to the 706.

i dont liek the 606 or 706. they are very generic looking and the power isnt much

the 706 only offers 10watts per channel over the 606

i HAD a 706 snd returned it for the 806.
one of the better decisions i made in this year

LETS GO METS!!!

I bought an Onkyo 706 brand new for $480 out the door (I thought it was $480 + tax but it wasn't) & it has zero issues, & pushes some Polk TSi's just fine for what I need. My 905's are the big boys I wanted to get a Pioneer 1019 also but not if its been dumb down from the 1018, thats disappointing...
