Default Still no Robert Altman movies on BD!

I can't believe that the great Robert Altman is still unrepresented in the BD catalog. Surely classics such as MASH, McCabe And Mrs Miller, Nashville, The Player, Short Cuts and Gosford Park must be coming out sometime this year! Any other Altman fans out there?

I'd grab Popeye. Not too big of a fan of the other movies.

"The Player" would be a must-buy for me. I'd get "Short Cuts" as well. "Popeye" would be a consideration if it were free.

"3 Women" is still in my pile to watch. I own "Nashville" on DVD as well, but I don't think I'd watch that enough more times that it'd be worth getting on blu.

ABSOLUTELY RIGHT. I am a big Robert Altman fan. I am from KC area same as Altman. Just watched Short Cuts and MASH this pass month on DVD. The Player is one of my favorite movies of all time. Definately need some Altman movies on Blu Ray. 20th Century Fox could give MASH the same treatment they gave Patton.

3 Women is BRILLLLLLIANT. Totally underrated.

And these are the Altman I want on Blu:

3 Women
Nashville
McCabe & Mrs. Miler

A Prairie Home Companion

I agree and there's another favorite director of mine that has no films on BD.

David Lynch

We need at least one or few of his classics on Blu. MASH and Nashville would obvious choices to be released first sinece they were thw to be nominated for Best Picture These two would look incredible on Blu,other great films include Gosford Park.McCabe and Ms Miller,Short Cuts,Cookies Fortune,The Player,Popeye, and A Prarie Home Companion. They still have not released his first film called The Delinquents which has never been on home video in any format, that I know of,it starred Tom (Billy Jack) Laughlin who also directed part of the film,it seems like Altman and Laughlin are ashamed of it since they never talk about it in interviews, maybe it's a "lost film" now.

I was considering buying Short Cuts on dvd, but cant find it any cheaper than $20. Does anyone think that it (or any other of Altman's films) will find their way to blu-ray soon? Otherwise I might just buy the dvd.

Default Some new Altman blu-rays in Europe!

I just stumbled on this topic and decided to join. I hope you are still interested in what I have to say, even though this thread is dead for some time now.
I'm a great fan of Robert Altmans movies and I live in the Netherlands. I have just become very optimistic about his films coming to blu-ray eventually.
Recently I discovered that Pret-a-Porter had been re-leased on blu-ray in Germany. Actually I bought it because it was not too expensive and because I could turn off the subtitles. I was utterly amazed to discover a Making off and some other special features on the disc as well. I was also amazed how great it is to see this typical Altman film in such clear picture quality. Pret-a-Porter has grown on me over the years and the blu-ray made me admire the film even more.
I also just discovered that Buffalo Bill or Sitting Bulls history lesson has been released on blu-ray in Sweden. I have no idea why that is, but I bought it and am very glad with. I think this film is great as well and highly underrated.
But if such an underrated film makes its way to blu-ray, there are high hopes for The Long Goodbye, A Wedding and many others.
I'm convinced that McCabe and Miss Miller will get an American release eventually, as well as Short Cuts. It may take a while, but the world of Blu-ray behaves quite unpredictable and a lot of classics do make it, sometimes quite unexpectedly.
Also Altmans Beayond Therapy is on blu-ray in Germany, but it is my humble opnion that this was not Altman at his best.
I realise that in order to enjoy al these releases one may need find a region free player. I intend to do so, just so I can see some Criterion releases over here as well.

I have the Delinquents on DVD.... bought it as an ex-rental from a video store. Definitely not a lost film.

Default List of available titles so far.

I can fully agree to that wish-list!

Let's see what we have so far. If a new blu-ray title is released (anywhere in the world) it would be great if someone will add it here.

MASH
US and Europe, good picture quality and extra's

Buffalo Bill and the Indians
Europe (Sweden), good picture quality, no extra's

The Long Goodbye
Europe (France), good picture quality, Two extra features taken from the US-DVD

3 Women
US, Criterion release, good picture quality and extra's

Beyond Therapy
Europe (Germany)

The Player
US, good picture quality and extra's

Pret-a-Porter
Europe (Germany), good picture quality, a load of extra's, including an interesting Making off-feature (50-minutes)

Cookie's Fortune
Europe (France), good picture quality, no extra's

Gosford Park
US/Canada, rumoured to have bad picture quality

That's how far my knowledge goes, feel free to comment if I'm wrong somewhere. I think this list shows us that there is interest in Altman's films on blu-ray and that gives some hope for more releases in the future.

If someone is interested in knowing how I got rid of the forced French subtitles on the French Blu-ray of The Long Goodbye, don't hesitate to ask!

Sorry for reviving such an old thread, but since there's still no uncut DVD or BD release of California Split available, I though I'd mention that the film was shown on TV here in Finland a few days ago in its original 2.35:1 aspect ratio and with the Phyllis Shotwell songs intact, and in HD, no less. The running time was exactly 104 minutes (PAL), corresponding to a little over 108 minutes at 24 fps.

I've never come across reports of the uncut version with the original AR appearing anywhere on video before, so I take this to be quite a scoop, and an indication that a new BD/DVD release may be possible in the future. Let's hope so!

I belong to a local film appreciation society and they're screening 5 Altman films this fall and 3 Women is screening tomorrow night! Sadly, as an Altman fan, I've yet to see it, so seeing it for the first time on the big screen will be a treat!

I know that McCabe & Mrs. Miller is with Warner, but I would love if they licensed it to Criterion for a stunning blu-ray release (I know, I know, they don't do that, except in certain circumstances, but I can dream right?). I also really want Images and Brewster McCloud on blu-ray. Hell, I'd buy even his lesser films from the late 70s-80s on blu-ray (HEALTH, Quintet, etc.)!
