Default What sort of SteelBook™ collector are you?

I just wonder what people do with their SteelBooks and what they mean to them.

Like the poll question says, select an answer between 1 and 4 as well as one between 5 and 7.

I only buy the ones I'm interested in and I open all of them as the reason I bought them is to watch them afterall.

For now, I try to get as many of the Steelbooks I can. However I am beginning to see that the habit is getting out of hand financially-LOL So I am going to become a bit more particular with which ones I buy. I also open the movies I like (and feel less guilty about doing so since purchasing the plastic baggies for them) and will keep the ones I think might increase in value in the future, sealed, or try to by 2 of them if money allows me to, one to open, one to keep sealed. Cool poll by the way Kynch!

I will buy any Blu-ray SteelBooks that are either in English or have English subtitles regardless or region. However, I will only open those SteelBooks for movies that I have not seen.

Let me start off by saying I love my Steelbooks!

I open my Steelbooks as I watch them, yes I know they look awesome sealed, but I buy movies so I can watch and enjoy them with my family!

In my opinion I don't think they'll be worth much down the road, just like VHS or even DVD's are not really worth anything anymore. And yes I know some guy out there is trying to sale his John Rambo for 499.99 EUR's "but he's just crazy"

Bottom line, I love collecting Steelbook to watch them and the HUNT in trying to find them!

DIRTY.

Thanks, that's what I figured. We'll see how long I can keep this up. I was about to give up if there was one more TDK somewhere else in the world.

Wait? You haven't heard?

The Principality of Monaco are releasing a SteelBook edition of TDK since it was a hit in their cinemas.

Frugal kind here -- only purchase ones that I have an interest in (double dips are low priority), have a set limit on what I will spend for any one, and I always watch them.

No buying steelbooks and replacing discs.

I have to set limits or I might find myself in a heap o' trouble.

I buy the ones I want, and those that I feel are worth money by being a bit exclusive, maybe sell those down the road to put the money towards more wanted SB's ... I tried hard not to like SB's but they sunk me in.

I am drawn to steelbooks with attractive artwork on the cover. Vibrant images, deep color tones and creative graphics (including the use of embossing and/or custom stickers) are especially appealing to me.

For example, I really like the artwork on the Babylon AD steelbook. Therefore, I am adding it to my collection (thanks to Kynch) -- despite the fact that the movie is a dismal failure. One steelie in my collection is actually quite bland in appearance: T-2 Premium Edition-Japan (thank you HD 335). However, its antiseptic brushed aluminum design features embossed lettering and is further enhanced by the unique Japanese-language sticker which resides beneath the shrink wrap. I am eager to receive Hellboy 2 (in transit from American Baron) because it appears to feature especially attractive artwork.

For me, non-English language writing on steelbook covers adds a sense of adventure to the item. I do not mind it at all. I am not a world traveler. However, some steelbooks have traveled around the world to reach me. How exciting is that?

It also does not matter to me if a steelbook is region A, B or C. I am not planning on opening any sealed steelbooks, so region coding is irrelevant. In a sense, I am basically collecting the case. I have the regular BD in my collection for viewing purposes.

I am not a fan of price stickers affixed to the outer shrink wrap. I have yet to experiment with using a hair dryer to heat up price stickers and (hopefully) remove them from the shrink wrap without leaving sticky residue.

Although I am a relative newcomer to steelbook collecting, I have been able to build up a nice selection thanks to many of the good people on this web site. Special thanks to: jwbbud, mfinochio, jurassic pork, American Baron, Kynch, HD 335, Hoosier2007, Itputdallotion0n, Big N' Tasty, Zman2k2, Pro-X, parkerwilson, apsmith21, i8abercrombie92, and harryviewty. I also want to thank jojo2351, victors, JasonS, Che, geneboi, and dandeeswish for keeping me inspired to build my steelbook collection. You are all great friends.

These, and many other great members on this web site, are helpful and enthusiastic people who offer great resources on everything and anything blu-ray.

Wow, well done nycomet! Welcome!! I'm new too, and so far everyone's been really helpful and nice to offering their steelbooks. It is really fun collecting them and just looking at them at the end of the day. It puts a smile on my face, i duno about anyone else lol. You pointed out an interesting point, too nycomet; that the steelbooks are coming from other countries. It is crazy when you stop and think about it Thanks for the great message.

Just curious, why would the lack of English audio or subtitles or a region code be a no-go if the steels will be kept sealed anyway? I mean who will ever notice it?

I just started collecting these things(new hobby i guess like you guys see it lol). I like the design of the steel book cover itself ( makes the movie different from jus ta regular plastic case). And the artwork is usually way cooler.

I only buy ones i can eventually watch (region A). All of mine will be watched eventually

looking at the trading forum, it should be something along the lines as the majority of the people buy them for resale
