Default Hitchcock on Blu?

I know that North by Northwest is supposedly coming out on Blu later this year, but what about the others?

I'd also buy Vertigo, Psycho, Rear Window, The Man Who Knew Too Much (remake), Rope and Strangers on a Train on the day of release.

I'm wondering if there are legal issues delaying release, as happened about 25-30 years ago, or what the holdup is. I would expect Psycho to be released in 2010 for the 50th anniversary.

Anyone have ideas?

No word so far. Hitch's stuff is split mainly between Warner and Universal. There are several Criterion releases that are out of print and I don't know where the rights to those lay. If something happens with Hitchcock, it'll be big enough that you'll hear about it.

And yes, sometime soon, we should hear more about North By Northwest.

All great films. For my wish list I need to add:
Lifeboat
To Catch a Thief
Dial M For Murder
The Trouble With Harry

I remember reading that many of his films were poorly preserved and need intensive restoration. Some, like Rear Window got restored a few years ago. This may be why Hitch's films have not yet been released on BR.

Hitchcock was a master film-maker, I'll purchase whatever catalog titles are released.

Warner have promised a 50th anniversary edition of 'North By Northwest' on BD and DVD for later this year. They also own 'Strangers On A Train'. All the other titles you mentioned are owned by Universal. Have patience - Universal are still struggling to catch up on their back-catalog BD releases, having been the last major studio to support Blu-ray (only after the end of the format war).

Thanks, Bruce - that gives me some hope. As catalog titles go, one would think that Hitch classics would be near the top of the priority list. Of course, if they're using this time to clean up source material, then I wouldn't mind waiting for the work to be done. I just wish the studios would give fans some idea of the status.

Maybe Robert Harris has some information on Vertigo...
