Default John Carpenter's Halloween Extended TV Cut

I have the this version on DVD that includes extra footage that was filmed for tv only. Is this version included on the blu ray cut?

No it's only the theatrical edition (the cut scenes are shown in the documentary however). I'm not sure if they'll ever release the extended cut or not.

I hope they dont release 15 different editions like they did on standard dvd. I got tired of every year seeing a different cut of the film. I like the blu version. Its the only one I need.

Now if they would just get around to part 2

Actually the Blu-ray isn't as good as it should be. We need a version with the correct color timing.

Various people who were at the theater in 1978 have confirmed this is the closest to how they saw it there. I have found no evidence that John Carpenter "disowned" this transfer as some people say. True, they did not bring in Dean Cundey to look at it, but that doesn't mean he wouldn't like it if he saw it. The 1999 DVD had ridiculous amounts of blue tint, which some people miss, but there is no evidence I could find showing that this is the one and only version with the "correct" color timing.

I think the blu-ray looks really good compared to the dvd...especially the day scenes. Also the audio is much improved.

Wow. I feel so out of the loop. I had NO IDEA that there was a longer cut of John Carpenter's Halloween. I am quite pleased with the BD.

They should release it this summer, that'd be cool. Halloween II while they're at it!

I'll keep the theatrical cut. The color may be off on the blu, but it's still an excellent transfer.

Has anyone seen this yet? It's kind of off topic, but it does involve Halloween and is hilarious!

I like the theatrical version so I don't care. Also about the color I think the blu is the best the movie has ever looked.

I agree. I also think the BD version looks just like it did the first time I saw it in 1978. Much better then any DVD version I had.

I was never alive to see it in theatres but I've seen every other home media version and the blu looks the most natural.

I actually saw it back in '06 when they were showing it on 50 screens across the US on Oct. 30 and 31. What a treat that was. Even though I'd seen it dozens of times on vhs and dvd, nothing could compare to seeing it on the big screen.

To this date, I've seen all but 2 and 3 in the theater.

You haven't really missed out on much... There's some additional dialogue, and the most memorable extra scene is a court scene where Dr. Loomis argues for the danger of treating Michael than anything else than evil itself.

I had one, too, but dumped it for the Blu-ray. I personally didn't care for the extended cut.

Carpenter shot those television scenes during the filming of Halloween II because NBC claimed the running time of the film was too short (after S&P cuts) for a two-hour time slot. Today NBC would have just shown more commercials I'm sure.

But either way, Carpenter has largely disavowed those scenes. He filmed them to more closely tie part one and two (since the network premiere of Halloween was more or less a commercial for Halloween II), but has since said that the footage makes the original just one part of an anthology, rather than the self-contained film it was meant to be when originally made.

Also, Anchor Bay flubbed the extended cut anyway. By not using the "SMITH'S GROVE, APRIL 8, 1965" title card, they had to re-edit the sound of Judith Meyers being killed, and Michael's mask being removed so that the music would end before the cut. This puts everything out of sync right before the additional scenes begin. Lastly, Anchor Bay got the brightness levels wrong. You can clearly see that even the letterbox bars are slightly grey instead of black, which gives an annoying double-bar effect on 4:3 TVs. The early THX discs are not as perfect as some Cundey fanboys would like you to believe.
