Default what speaker set is this?

https://www.blu-ray.com/community/gal...folderid=1175#

What's this guy using for his/her audio system?

On a side note, should i get these equipments seperately to get better quality? I've only willing to spend 3000 max to spend on equipment. I'm a complete newbie too.

Things i'll need/want.

amplifier
subwoofer
front and left speaker
centre
pair of surround speakers
receiver..

Basically, the whole thing =/

I've heard if you buy from the same company, it usually "syncs" better to make it more smooth for audio. Is this true?

My suggestion would be,

Denon avr-1909, or Onkyo 706
Paradigm monitor 7's fronts
paradigm monitor cc-290 center
paradigm monitor adp-190's or Paradigm mini monitors for surrounds
ED sub or something in the $300 - $400 range

Totoal just under $3000

sound = kick a$$

Don't choose speakers primarily for their looks. make sure they sound good to you. Therefore, audition them before you buy. Also bring your own music and movies that you are familiar with so you can do an honest audition.

Not sure if it's of any help, but I'm thinking those are all from the Polk Monitor series (old logo). They look like:

Towers (R/L) Monitor 70s
Surrounds Monitor 40s
Rear Suround Monitor 30s
Center CS1 or CS2

Receiver looks like an Onkyo TX-SR806

Whatever you decide to do, just make sure you don't have your rear speakers set-up the same way they do.

That's a No No.... For sure...

IF I may.... For $3000, don't mess with Polk or any of the "traditional popular" stuff on this site, go for something more high-end and that you will not need to upgrade, ever.

Buy yourself this Marantz Receiver.

These Dynaudio Excite X16s

and the Dynaudio Excite X22 C

Total will be $2600 ish, once you get a nice 20% discount.

Then add a sub for your setup
Hsu STF-2

Total is about to $2940

Then for surrounds throw a pair of these up for $79
Jamo C 401 Dont worry about the surrounds being the same brand or not, eventually you could get the Dyn DM 2/6 or something, but for now these would work just great.

And just for your review, check out this review of the smaller Dynaudio X12s, I will say you need to audition them, but once you hear them, you won't want anything else.

You could also go with something like these
Focal 706V $650/pr x2 =$1300
Focal CC 700V center channel $500

Subwoofer
Hsu STF-2 $350

Receiver
Marantz 6003 $649

You could put the last $200 into the speaker stands to match your speakers.

Again better then most setups that you will see traditionally.

Hey Callas, I'm not knocking this suggestions by any means, it seems like a solid set up. But, what are peoples thoughts on bookshelf fronts? I just can't see them giving a solid performance like towers could and I tend to worry what they would sound like when I see them suggested.

What do I know though, I have Polks! lol But hey, I only spent ~$350 on all of my speakers so...

It's honestly just a question though, I'm just curious how they hold up compared to towers.

If you see the comparison of these speakers that were done in the review of the X12 I posted, it was put up against various bookshelf and tower speakers from $2000 to $1200, one was the Monitor Audio RS6, and highly praised Tower speaker.

In the review of the smaller X12, it has a 5.7" driver, the X16 has a 7" driver, but the reviewer says that the Imaging, Bass and transpariency of the system goes beyond what he felt a Bookshelf(monitor) speaker could provide. He had the X12 set up as a 2.0 system and thought he had a subwoofer with it, but didn't
Quote:
But the most impressive strength of the X12 was how the combination of its extended, airy upper register and perfectly natural but lightning-sharp transients made the most difficult instruments sound startlingly lifelike.

At the opposite end of the frequency spectrum, the Dynaudio dared to dazzle. Tiny speakers—even ported ones—aren't expected to produce dramatically realistic bass in my large listening room. But with all the rock-'em, sock-'em Blu-ray discs I threw at the X12s (my home theater is integrated into my two-channel reference system), I kept looking around the room for the subwoofer that wasn't there. It didn't sound like that fake upper-bass bump that makes you think it's deeper than it is. Nor did it sound like that farty, discontinuous, "port-like" chuffing bass. No, it sounded like real bass

I felt more of a sense of an orchestra in the room than I have when I've listened to this recording through several floorstanding speakers.
So its not that a bookshelf design cannot perform as good as a tower, its all about the design and quality of what you get.

i have a pair of energy rc-10s that i use for music only, but i did hook them up in place of my tower energy c-500s for a few days and definitely noticed improvements in detail and imaging. the energy rc series is definitely a step above my energy c series towers, and now the cost of a pair of rc-10s is on par w/ what i paid for my c500s. for my money, i wish i'd gone the bookshelf route when the energy rc series was still widely available, but what can you do.

you can find higy quality bookshelves for the price of budget tower speakers. in my opinion, the higher quality bookshelves are the better option if you're going to be using a sub. to me it's hard to justify towers if they're being crossed over at 80hz.

if you have the $$$ for high quality towers, then i'm sure they would probably outperform a bookshelf. but if we're talking under $500 for a pair of speakers, give me bookshelves over towers any day for sound quality...

to the OP, definitely check out psb, energy, axiom, paradigm, aperion, hsu research(i think they have a pretty good sale going right now for a 3.1 system w/ an stf-2), and +1 on the recommendation of the stf-2 sub, very good for the $$$...
