Default Please Stop The Pointless Reviews!!!!

Blu-Ray.com reviewers:

Pleas stop wasting the readers' time with pointless reviews. These fall into two categories: The multi-set reviews and the "cute" reviews.

First the multi-set reviews. I understand that studios are release movies in two or three movie packs, but why are you wasting site space with reviews for them? It would be one thing if these sets included a bonus disc that you couldn't get with the individual releases, but so far none of them had. Instead we get cut-and-paste jobs where all the individual reviews are just strung together. Why? Just link to the REAL review for each movie if you insist on creating a new entry for these sets. Case in point the recent "Zombie Bundle" review.

Second, the "cute" reviews. Specifically, the High School Musical reviews. How insulting those were that I barely scanned over them. If you're going to write a movie off before you even watch, don't bother reviewing it at all. I fear that the trend will continue and next we'll see a review of "Marley & Me" with commentary by Fido, the reviewer's golden lab. I can imagine such winning lines as, "I found the movie rather dull and Fido seemed to agree because halfway through he jumped off the couch and went to the dining room and proceeded to lick his crotch for the remainder of the film." Whoever okayed the HSM reviews needs to have his decision-making abilities revoked. Any future reviews that require "special guests" should be rejected immediately.

in regards to the high school musical review, did you read the entire thing? for adults i think ben's review is pretty spot on. it isn't something that would be entertaining to the older crowd, instead probably coming off as laughable and likely obnoxious. however, he makes the definite point that

Disney has delivered each film in a feature packed and high quality Blu-ray edition that should satisfy the hungriest High School Musical appetites. It’s a rare occasion to see a Blu-ray set hit the market with a target audience under the age of 12. So, you parents out there who are hungry for more high definition content for your kids, should be happy as clams. High School Musical is highly recommended for fans and families.
i don't know what is "pointless" about this...he isn't completely writing it off, as the movie is targeted toward younger teenagers and below, which is exactly what ben states. i'm not sure about you, but most adults without kids probably won't be adding this to their collections, and through his own opinion of the movie ben describes the reasons why. do you expect a 100% serious review of something like "meet the spartans" too

Yeah I haven't seen any 30 to 50 year old men with no kids liking it or have any interest in it.

I totally get the 3-pack review thing. Was thinking that last night.
About HSM, I actually enjoyed reading the review because it CLEARLY stated that the film was not targeted for older audiences. He used a younger person as a reviewer so that parents will read it and if they think their kids would enjoy the film on blu-ray, they will in fact purchase it.

If you honestly think you can do better, give us a sample? Why don't you write us a review of any title of your choice?

Blu-ray.com doesn't allow review bashing on any level, Its a very hard job to do to please mass levels of people everytime. These guys are criticized more and more just because your views are clouding their review.

I read the first two posts ......No one is forcing you to read the 'cute' reviews, They are there for your entertainment or the person inquiring what type of movie it is. These type threads shouldn't be commented on to allow the proper people, like Ben or a reviewer to reply.

As has been said a number of times, you certainly can't please everyone every time. With that being said, I've received more 'Thank you' PMs and emails regarding the HSM reviews than other other titles I've ever reviewed. So, while I appreciate that you didn't like the reviews, it seems apparent that your opinion is in the minority. The fact that you enjoy the HSM movies should be enough for you; you shouldn't need for me to validate your opinions.

I see from some of your posts in the forums that your most anticipated title on Blu-ray is Titanic. I don't share your opinon on that, but I hadn't planned on banning you from the site for holding a different opinion than I do. Using that same logic, we won't be discontinuing multi-set reviews or reviews of children's movies because a small number of people don't find them worthwhile.

Spock said it best: "The needs of the many, outweigh the needs of the few."

Live long and prosper,

Ben
