Hmmm, expected to a degree I suppose but oddly this isn't worrying me as much as I thought, and here's why:
After playing Oblivion for 6 hours straight, I turned off the PlayStation and when the screen went blank I thought I'd have a shufty at the screen. I noticed that at the bottom of the screen there was a very faint image of the health-ometer and compass. However, after about half an hour of normal broadcast stuff I switched back to black screen and the burn in had gone. So, it seems the pixels return to their normal state after a while without the image that caused the burn in being displayed. Or maybe it's just because my TV is fairly new (about March I bought it). Anyone else had this? |

That's not burn-in. The new buzz-word by the Plasma-making industry is "image retention." It's more politically-correct, and doesn't scare off potential sales.
Do a search on avsforum.com under displays, and you'll see comments much the same. By the way, the same thing happens with my plasma. |

I think if you leave an image on a plasma for hours and hours and hours and hours, days, etc, etc, then it can get permanently burned. But as I understand it, it is much less of a problem than it was a couple of years ago.

Yeah, permanent burn-in is a thing of the past now. Although I wish game designers kept in mind when they place static power bars and such on the screen, they could make an option to turn off all that screen info, or at least make it dimmer. Full screen, uncluttered hd games look soooo nice ie: Gears of War...

I have the pioneer Pro-FHD1, and a few weeks ago, I passed out while playing videogames. I woke up in the morning and realized it was on the pause screen all night. When the screen was all white, I could see the paused image retention on the screen. I freaked out, but it went away after a couple days. Man that really scared me, but I'm kinda glad it happened cuz now I'm not really worried about screen burn anymore.

![]() Still, good to know that it disappeared after a while. I'm just loading up Oblivion now to check something. |

Hmmm, I'd hoped that there was a 'screen centre' option. If there was I could suggest every half an hour putting the game on to pause and moving the screen settings by half an inch.
Still, I know some games can do that so it may be worth bearing in mind for those fragile of confidence. ![]() |

I used to have temporary image burns on my lcd. (usually when they have a scene where the screen fades to black; I can still see some of the previous picture before it). That only happened when I played DVDs on my PS3, but now it all works fine.
