Default Need help deciding

I need help deciding which blu-ray player is the way to go.

Panasonic DMP-BD35
Sony BDP-S550
Sony BDP-BX1

There are so many conflicting reviews as to these players. On consumer reports it the 550 has the highest rating but it recommends the 35 as well.

I can't offer comparisons as to superiority, but can say that i have the S550 and have had zero issues with it; am satisfied with that model.

The BD35 doesn't have analog out like the S550 does, the BD55 has analog outs however. The s350 is identical to the s550 just without the analog outs. Depending on your setup and whether or not you need analog outputs I would suggest that you look at the BD35 and S350 if you are using HDMI audio or the BD55 and S550 if you are using analog audio. There are master threads for each of these players here, so you can get an idea from owner's of these devices.

P.S. I believe the Panasonic was just updated to the BD60.

Yes, I agree 100% Even my dealer said that the S550 is as good as the Pioneer Elite blu ray player that lists for 750 ! So I took his word and went to Best Buy !

the panny 35 is more at the sony 350 level imo. also, i couldnt find any pannys recently i think they were discontinued and replaced by the panny 60. i think the new panny bd80 is more on the same level as the sony 550 which will be replaced by a new model soon so im waiting.

The Panasonic DMP-BD35 is hard to find. The Panasonic DMP-BD60 is now available.

+1, or the DMP-BD55, both are excellent standalone players.

I plan on using the HDMI cable only and not the analog.

Talking Panasonic BD 35

As other posters have said, the BD 35 is hard to find. I bought one for Christmas, and still run v1.4 firmware, and have had ZERO problems so far. My only fear is overuse as I watch sooooo many more movies now that I've gone blu!
