Default Rumor: PS3 Motion Sensing Remote Completed - Waggle in HD??

by: Ken Cauley

We've heard the whispers and hints for quite a while now, but we can finally lay the doubt to rest. Our source, which has a superb track record for accuracy, has informed us that Sony is not only developing a PS3 motion sensing remote to combat Nintendo's Wii Remote, but it's already finished. In fact, our source has informed us that Sony is reaching out to key third-party publishers and asking them to implement last minute functionality into their soon-to-be released games and of course compatibility with select future games.

It is unknown as to whether or not Sony's "Remote" will be superior in any way to the Wii Remote. Will it mirror the functionality of the existing Wii Remote or rather the upcoming Wii MotionPlus? Needless to say, this certainly goes against the early criticism Sony had for Nintendo when they first unveiled the Wii Remote. First they released the Sixaxis controller (Dual Shock 3) with limited built-in motion sensing functionality and now a full-blown PS3 Remote. Please note that this will not become the new standard for PlayStation 3 games, but rather an added option for select games.

Because it isn't officially announced by Sony, we're going to label it as a rumor. Regardless, anticipate that Sony will officially unveil their second attempt at a solution to the Wii Remote either before E3 or during their E3 press conference. Given that they're already offering it to select publishers, expect a short list of compatible titles to be announced as well.

I think that it'd be cool only in Sports games. I couldn't really see it adding that much more value other than maybe a game you kill people with a sword as well.

If it draws more people in from Nintendo then by all means, lets play!

If they make games AROUND that controller fine... good. cookie? But to add it in last minute where it's forced and annoying. Like the saxis. ugh. I hate tilting the controller to balance. It feels so infantile.

I know it's inevitable for MS and Sony to follow Nintendo's path. I just hope that both the regular DualShock 4 and WaggleShock 4 is included with the PS4 for those of who that like regular controls.

I'd be happy with a backlit remote. Accidentally hitting stop instead of pause when watching a movie, when you haven't set a bookmark, is really frustrating!

you would be able to use both controllers, where as the wii, only allows 1 way.. I think this would be win win... If you don't want to use it, then don't. It doesn't affect you.

I think people should stop whining about something they aren't going to use.. It doesn't affect you in anyway.

if they're asking devs to "put it into games" the obviously it's going to be there for use.

I'm not "whining" however they're NOT going to make 2 versions of a game so that people can choose which controller to play with. If the new dragon quest on PS follows the wii's model do you think they're going to take the time to port another version that uses standard buttons? Doubt it.

For tennis and golf games this is great, I wouldn't use it for anything else... Maybe another bowling game too.

Wii sports is the only game I still play for the Wii... I bought so many games and played them maybe once. I've learned my lesson and won't be buying so many stupid little games if Sony really comes out with this controller.

I find this to be a great idea for those who play sports games like tennis and stuff. Get the great graphics plus the option of functionality like the wii. At least they may give people the choice now, instead of not even an option

Ken Cauley reads GAF am confirmed. Someone over there made it up as a joke I'm pretty certain. Who knows though.

Also it's getting a bit too close to April 1st...
