Bionic Command PSN - secret tunnel (near end of game)

Ok, so I've rescued Joe and the latest thing I've been told to do is go through these secret areas. I'm at the part in this video. I have no idea why but my bionic arm will not attach to this freaking spot at 28 seconds in the video (from the first platform). Yes I've shot the switch as well. I've quit the game, rebooted, etc.. Same results every time. Tried doing it while staying still moving. It will not latch on

You can't hang onto those, so you'll need to start swinging right away. Your bionic arm will grab it, allow you to complete your swing, and then automatically let go.

Yes, I think that's stupid too.

Really, I can't even seem to get it to stay hooked to take off. I guess I'll try again tonight. I don't recall any fixture like that earlier in the game. Truly stupid if it is true.
