Gary Oldman joins Iron Man 2!! (SPOILER ALERT)

Gary Oldman's got the best of both worlds now - Marvel and DC.

The star of Chris Nolan's "Batman" flicks (he plays Jim Gordon in "Batman Begins" and "The Dark Knight") has reportedly joined the ever-growing cast of Paramount's "Iron Man 2", according to IESB.

Some say rival studios don't look too kindly on actors that float between comic-book properties on each others compounds, but James Marsden ("X-Men", "Superman Returns") seems to have gotten away with it. And Oldman will too. I mean, whose gonna **** with Dracula!?

The site speculates that Oldman could be playing Howard Stark, Iron Man's Poppa in the film.

Gary Oldman was originally set to star opposite Robert Downey Jr in "Zodiac", so chances are they're already acquainted.

Wow, that's cool! Funny I just finished replying in the "Holy shit!" thread and then saw the title of this and actually said, "whoa, holy shit!"

Hopefully this doesn't lead to re-casting in Batman 3.

Oh I didn't actually here that, but usually like you said if it's denied it's true, haha. Especially if he is playing Tony's father, because unless we are talkin flashbacks in IM2 they could be a MAJOR spoiler if he turned out to be alive.

imdb still has tim robbins (i think) rumored for Howard Stark
but unless im thinking of something else, that has been denied also

JoBlo says that according to the actor's manager, Gary Oldman is NOT involved in the upcoming "Iron Man" sequel and at present is still in the midst of shooting "The Book of Eli". The rumor, which had Oldman playing Tony Stark's father, first surfaced at IESB.

Meanwhile the first pictures of Don Cheadle, Gwyneth Paltrow and Robert Downey Jr. on-set are up at Spoiler TV, as is a shot of Garry Shandling at Pacific Coast News.

Finally, Marvel has released the official start of production press release. Here it is below:

"Marvel Studios, a subsidiary of Marvel Entertainment, Inc. has launched the production of Iron Man 2 starring Robert Downey Jr., Gwyneth Paltrow, Don Cheadle, Scarlett Johansson, Sam Rockwell, John Slattery, Mickey Rourke and Samuel L. Jackson. Jon Favreau will direct Iron Man 2, the sequel to Iron Man, with the screenplay by Justin Theroux. Iron Man 2 is being released in theatres domestically on May 7, 2010 and distributed worldwide by Paramount Pictures. Tele Munchen will distribute the film in Germany and Austria.

Iron Man 2 is being produced by Marvel Studios' President, Kevin Feige, and executive produced by Louis D'Esposito, Jon Favreau, Stan Lee, David Maisel, Denis Stewart and Susan Downey.

Based on Marvel's iconic Super Hero, Iron Man 2 continues the story of the 2008 summer box office blockbuster Iron Man, the first feature film to be produced independently by Marvel Studios. The first film in the franchise has grossed over a half billion dollars worldwide at the box office.

In addition to Iron Man 2, Marvel Studios is also scheduled to release a slate of films based on the Marvel characters including Thor on May 20, 2011, The First Avenger: Captain America on July 22, 2011, and The Avengers on May 4, 2012.

Huge movie stars like Gary Oldman should not be allowed to drop by on set without involvement. Like the original article said it's a different studio than Batman's and therefore if he isn't involved he shouldn't be allowed. They know by now what kind of news this stirs up. He must have thought it was white boy day.

pretty good point
but since he is a huge movie star i guess he gets to do that
this was before filming began wasnt it?
i mean if this is before filming and he just stopped by to talk to some friends or something and the studio said, "you cant come around here you have to leave now"
that might influence him to not take a movie with that studio again because how he was treated

I am sure that we will have an official confirmation or denial in a couple of weeks. However, what would he be doing on the set, if he were not involved in the project? I am inclined to believe he has a part in the movie...we will see.
