Great news (except for the price). The existing double disc Kinowelt edition has one of the best transfers I've seen on a DVD and all the extras except notes were English friendly. The only thing I'd like to see as another extra is Kathryn Bigelow's Pirelli advert Mission Zero

The 16/9 DVD looks indeed good, but the transfert clearly was made from the same source for the movie laserdisc release, it has the exact same color timing as the US DVD (which is the LD master in 2.35 - 4/3). I'm just hoping it's a fresh transfert, and not a HD master made a decade ago, but never downconverted for DVD.

I'm in the minority of loving this movie, it was funny how Cameron inverted his usual tricks, and made the guy the girly one for most of the movie, until he turned around that is.

Hi man Was it HD made for SD ? I'm not so sure -- I would enjoy a revisited version. To see if it's the same as the LD, just watch the last shot when the end credits kicks in -- it's clearly composited from a different source than the rest of the film. This disparity is both on the USA NTSC DVD and the R2 Pal anamorphic master.

Be nice to replace the BBFC-cut UK version which, at least, was anamorphic 16:9. Although admittedly the cuts were in the initial sequence which is edited in such a way not everyone will see the difference between the two versions.

BEWARE of this release.
The english language tracked has the left and right channels reversed. From a report by the reliable expert Torsten Kaiser there are other problems with the sound too.

Yeah, the they're definitely reversed, while the German is fine. Such a shame, as the PQ is sublime. I mainly watch my movie through headphones, so I just reversed the ears. Not an ideal solution, but there ya go...

Seriously though, this is infuriating. I guess we'll now have to wait until it's done correctly in the UK or the US.

If I remember correctly all UK releases of STRANGE DAYS so far have been suffering from BBFC cuts.

The best option in region B would probably be a french release but there would be the possibility of non-removable french subtitles.

I love this movie! Was so excited when I saw it was available for blu, but then I saw the region coding...can anyone confirm that this is the actual coding?

And, reading through this thread I can't understand how anyone could think the audio channels are reversed; they're fine. Maybe it's the opening scene in the car and then robbing the Chinese restaurant that throws people off - dialog and sound effects come from the front speakers then switch to rears, then to the surrounds, back to the front, etc. But that's the intended sound mix - it's as if you are in the middle of the action, and the characters are all around you. If you're listening to it with headphones I imagine the opening sequence does sound strange, but try the beginning of chapter 4 - Fiennes is riding in a car with Angela Bassett driving. Fiennes' dialog clearly comes from the left speaker and her's from the right.

I remember seeing this in the theatre opening day and was just blown away by it. The opening sequence had me right away, and still to this day I think it's one of the best opening sequences in a film. My only complaint about the film is the kiss.
The audio does switch anytime they're playing a clip during the movie. Just like the opening sequence the guy talking who's wearing the squid, his voice comes from the rear sound field.
I can't wait for the U.S. release
