Default Another Noob Question...

i was looking at pics of someone elses HT and they had the sony strdg 920 and it had "dts hd ma" on the screen or something like that. my sony 720 always displays "pcm 48" am i not getting dts hd codecs? or is this a model issue difference?

sorry im still learning. btw im hooked up via ps3

the only way to get the true hd or dts ma to show on a receiver is to have the audio bitstreamed to the receiver for decoding. your ps3 is decoding the audio so all your receiver will receive is pcm audio

so im not missing out on anything, the HD audio is just being decoded thru the ps3 before it gets to the receiver???

right. when you watch a movie, hit the select button on the controller. it will display the audio being sent/decoded. if it doesnt show the hd audio being used, then you may have to select the audio in the movie menu since not all movies default to hd audio

The Sony STR-DG720 cannot decode hd audio...so it will never display "TrueHD" or "Dts-HD MA".

But as un4gvn94538 mentioned, the PS3 is doing the deocde and sending it as PCM. You're good to go.
