Default Planet Earth on Blu-ray... Anyone own it?

I've been thinking about getting Planet Earth on blu-ray. I saw a few episodes on the Discovery channel earlier this year but only on a standard definition television (didn't have my HDTV yet) and I could only imagine what it would look like on HD.

Now that I have a blu-ray player and Planet Earth is on blu-ray, I might consider purchasing the $70 discs.

Does anyone actually own this title and vouch for its quality? I read some reviews and they say it looks stunning.
Just wanted your guys' input.

Thanks
-Leo

Do a search on the forums page, as many people own this. Doing that will lead you to many reviews of it on here.

In a nutshell: Yes, buy it. It's a great demo piece, the show itself is amazing, and the HD quality only makes it more of a deal.

I own it but IMO, I didn't think it was all that stunning and I have a 1080HDTV connected via HDMI cable to my ps3. I actually think it looked better on the Discovery Channel, but thats just me. Then again I think there may also be something wrong with my TV because again IMO, most of my blu-rays don't look at that great either

I disagree with you .PE on Blu-Ray does look Gorgeous .

this is the latest review on hometheaterspot.com

link:http://www.hometheaterspot.com/fusio...hp?tid/137403/

quote:

"VIDEO:
This is nearly a perfect presentation all around, but the VC-1 encoded discs show some minor flaws, which is to be expected with over 550 minutes of footage filmed. To call the video awe-inspiring is an understatement though. Whether it is the views from space, the underwater depths, the Grand Canyon, or Mount Everest, there are enough jaw dropping scenes to make this one of the greatest sets of visual demo discs available on any format. But spread throughout the presentation is some minor banding and some slight pixelation. In reality though, this video presentation is really a 4.99 when taken as a whole"

It is highly recommended on BD

This is definitely a TV issue.

It clearly is superior to the TV presentation although it is not the best blu-ray I have (PotC). Worth buying though.

$53 with "supersale" code at deepdiscount is probably the best price going.

some of the pulsing artifacts are so distracting, it's difficult for me to reccomend. But then it's so damn interesting and otherwise awesome..that I give it 1 thumb up!

wal-mart online had it for $66.87 when it first came out, but I'm not sure if the store has them for that price, or if they are still even on sale. Thats where I got mine from and shipping was pretty fast too.

In addition to the pulsating artifacting there's also banding in places. So no, it's not perfect. Other than that though it's quite good.

Like everyone mentioned there is some artifacting and banding but it is still pretty good.

BTW, mine is up for trade as I have watched it...
