Default Uneven sound

I have a 42in plasma tv with a ps3, digital cable box, wii, and xbox 360 all connected. The ps3 and 360 are hooked up with hdmi cords and the cable and wii are all hd component cables.

That being said, I have 2 problems. The first is more of an annoyance. When I watch cable the sound setting is at 44, turn on the ps3 or xbox and i lower it to 14. Is this something I can fix or am i stuck??

Second, I was watching Quantum of Solace on blu-ray and the sound was all over the place. The voices were quiet, so when i turned it up to hear I was blasted with sound effects. so loud my neighbors must have heard.

I dont have any room for a sound system and to be honest, I like the clarity and quality of sound I get now. Im just tired of the volume being all over the place. Is there something I can do?

This happened to me before. Sounds like your PS3 is only playing the rear channels. Have you checked your settings? I would just run through the auto setup on the PS3 for audio again.

Naaaaaaaah. My 360 and PS3 are the same way- my 360 is a lot louder than cable for instance. Different inputs have different volume outputs by default. You can either go into the TV settings (since it sounds like you don't have a receiver) and tweak each input or you can go in to the individual device's GUI and change it. In the PS3 there's a section you can change the volume. I'm not sure about the 360 as I can't remember seeing one, but there is an audio section so you could possibly do it that way.

As far as the dynamic volume- that's normal. I was just watching that movie this weekend and it's very dynamic- dialog is very quiet, and the action is very in-your-face. It's how it was mixed, and it's even moreso via lossless audio. My suggestion is either to set the volume where dialog sounds good and leave it as that's how it's supposed to be, or use DRC. The PS3 has this ability if you hit the triangle button during playback. It'll compress the highs and lows together so they're more along the same lines.
