Default Malick's The New World

The New World: Extended Edition is finally being released on Blu-ray. This has been my most anticipated release for Blu-ray since the title was announced for DVD last summer. I'm unbelievably excited. And from a video and audio quality perspective, this easily has the potential to be a reference level disc, supposing Warner goes for BD50 (Lubezki was nominated for a cinematography Oscar for his work on the film). Now all I -- and the rest the Malick loving Blu-ray community -- must do is wait 4 months for it to drop!

And to the uninitiated and unappreciative guy who lumped TNW in with the rest of the mediocre catalog titles being released alongside it (see: 10 catalog titles from Warner Bros(talk about scraping the bottom of the barrel), rent this film.

I figured Badlands would be his first bluray to be released. It's my favorite of his anyways.

I too have been greatly anticipating this release on Blu! I've yet to see the longer cut of the film, but I agree that the cinematography alone is more than enough to recommend this to anyone. Doesn't hurt that much of the film was shot on 65 mm stock. I'm not sure why this film gets such a bad wrap.

Not to stir the pot, but this movie bored me to death. I was very eager in the months approaching its theatrical release, then snoozed. It certainly has the potential to look and sound great.

Yeah, definitely not his best by any stretch. That damn Dubliner is so annoying to me.

You arent the only one. It'll be nice to watch the pretty images on blu ray but dont look for much else.

Default The New World Blu-ray review!

http://www.dvdbeaver.com/film/DVDRev...dvd_review.htm

Based on this review, this disc should be amazing, aurally and visually. It's a 50GB disc too: thank you Warner!

If you've never seen a Terrence Malick film before, I would recommend reading up on this before you blind buy. I think it's a great film, but the theatrical version was very long and (purposely) drawn out with little action or dialogue. With the extended edition, it definitely takes it time, so be prepared for it

I saw the movie when it came out. Went in with a high expectation, left with a depression.

After all its only IMO.

I totally understand. I think I watched an hour and a half but it felt more like four hours. I turned it off. Just couldn't get through it. I understand the directors vision, I just didn't share it.

What's not to get? The link is to a DVD-Beaver comparison of the DVD (older, theatrical cut) with the soon to be released Blu-ray.

I love this movie, my favorite film of the decade (though, perhaps soon to be overtaken my Malick's next: The Tree of Life). Not for all tastes, but even for a casual viewer, the action, -- of which there is definitely some, -- the beautiful images, and the story should be enough. Then again, I must be wrong in my characterization of the average movie-goer, because this film is severely undervalued and the responses just on this thread indicate that many were quite unmoved by it

All I see is a very small Theatrical review and some posters. I don't see anything about a Blu-Ray release.

Edit: It works now.

Funny (and sad) when a movie doesn't have countless explosions or a barrage of penis jokes, it's referred to en masse as boring. The same people prefer junk like MAXIM over National Geographic, I assume. Because it has hot chicks and true dat dating advice, not beautiful scenery and a lyrical, deeper meaning.
