Default LG GGW-H20L Blu ray player problems! please help!

Hello!

I'm new to the forums and i've been having massive problems with my new LG GGW-H20L Blu Ray/HD-DVD internal SATA drive! i installed the drive, plugged in the SATA power connector from my PSU, and connected the drive to the motherboard. BIOS and Windows XP SP3 both recognise the drive, but when I put a disc in (even a DVD) the blue LED on the drive flashes but the dvd wont play! when i try to open it in My Computer it normally just crashes my PC. Any ideas?! Any help would be greatly appreciated!!

Specs: Asus M2N68 motherboard
4gb ram
AMD PhenomX4 @ 2.8ghz
Nvidia Geforce GTX280
2x dvd-rw drives
1000w PSU

I'm certainly not an expert, but...!

I had a similar problem. My motherboard had two SATA controllers on it. I happened to plug my drive into the one I didn't install. Even though it was recognized in the BIOS, it wouldn't load any content. After installing the controller's drivers, the drive worked perfectly.

So did you install the most recent drivers for your SATA controller?

Hello xaero50000. Nice to see you on the boards. You have very good system. I love it. Mine is similar. Now, Everything is fine in your system. Do you have the most recent chipset drivers and AMD processor updates? Ty that. Are your GTX280 drivers up-to-date? What type of software are you playing the movies with? I just updated my PowerDVD Suite 7.0 drivers with some patch from Cyberlink yesterday and many people are having all types of trouble after installing the patch. However, I'm doing fine with my drive. The only difference is you have the burner drive. As a last resort, try switching out the SATA cord if possible. Yes, those pesky little cords can cause a great deal of headache. Lastly, that drive might just be faulty and you might have to do a RMA and sent it back for repairs or replacement if possible. Good luck....

thanks for the responses guys! i don't have a PCI sata controller, im using the slots on my motherboard and i've tried them all but the drive wont read discs on either of them. i've tried different SATA cords too but they didnt work. all my drivers are up to date including chipset and CPU. im trying to play the dvds with the supplied Cyberlink software, with the update patch too. but the dvd spins up, and the blue LED is blinking, but it seems to crash my computer and windows doesnt read the disc! this even happens with CDs. thing is, i'd had another Blu-ray drive (Sony BDU) but when that didnt work i sent it back. so dont think this one can be faulty too?!

i've also read that it could be a problem with the Nforce chipset on my motherboard? could a separate PCI SATA controller fix this? thanks again

I had similar repsonse when comp was toast and had to reinstall everything from beginning, once I had downloaded updated formware & uninstalled AnyDVD, it worked and runs great, but it did take some time & frustration before I figured out my problem, yours might be diff. especially if you don't use AnyDVD
