Anyway, does the EE of this shorten down the horrible barrel down the river scene? I just watch the theatrical of this for the first time the other night, and that scene was ridiculous. After seeing this one, I think I actually hate the dwarves. This movie needed way more Bilbo (and Gandalf for that matter) and much less dwarves. My least favorite of any of the Tolkien films yet. |

This was one of my favorite additions in the EE. I thought the longer trek through the forest made it creepier, more claustrophobic, and really showed the power of Mirkwood. It also added two great moments from the book (Bombur in the river/the white stag).

+1. The added moments about getting lost are fantastic.

Imo, the Smaug EE was a washout, except the Thrain scenes in Gol Guldor totally redeem it. Otherwise I would've been pointless to have bypassed the theatrical edition for me. Admittedly the added scenes while unnecessary, were better than AUJ's EE.

I thought the flow and rhythm of the extended edit was simply superior to the choppy theatrical cut - I'm still trying to figure out how Jackson and his editors managed to edit Thrain out of the theatrical cut in the Dol Guldur escape / Necromancer attack scene

Maybe it was all in Galdalf's mind & Thrain wasn't actually there.

Completely feasible given Gandalf had just been hanging out with Radagast and his mushrooms. Remember in the first movie Saruman lambastes Radagast's closeness to nature in this respect, indicating it "addled his mind" or some such thing.

I got my 2D Blu-ray with the statue on Tuesday, I'm glad I only had to wait an extra week to get it (I was seriously contemplating asking Amazon if I could get the one with the 3D version for the same price, I really wanted that statue lol).
As for the statue itself, it's definitely not my favorite of the EE statues, that's for sure, but it's still really nice. I don't love the likenesses of the characters, but everything else about the sculpt, paint, etc. is really nice and I'm glad I have it. |

There better be an actual Smaug dragon statue edition with the last film or I'm going to be one cranky Hobbit, and that point it's going to be all... |

Does the 2D Blu-ray contain Portuguese audio?
