Default Logitech remote! Worth buying?

Hi,

Because the PS3 does not work with the Logitech remote I have been hesitant to invest in one. However, the fact I have 5 remotes is driving me completely insane.

Should I purchase the Logitech, regardless of its non-compatibility with my PS3?

Yes. You should. They are fantastic remotes. Sucks they don't have bluetooth, but maybe one day they will. I own the 880, but I'm thinking about buying the One because of the better ergonomics. You will be happy.

I say yes. I was in the same boat and I purchased the Harmony 550 (the cheapest of the line), and I haven't regretted my decision yet. They are awesome remotes.

On the part about it working with your PS3, it will not of course but you can purchase the Nyko Blu Wave Remote and just use the IR sensor. It will not power on the PS3 but you can still control the Movie.

Thanks for that info. I did in fact see that mentioned on the Logitech site, but your link helped a great deal and for $15 at amazon it's well the investment.

So just to clear things up.

1. Still have to manually start up my PS3.
2. Only use the Nyko IR sensor, NOT the remote.
3. The Logitech wil then control all devices, including my PS3

I was looking at the 880 because of its curve design and thought it would fit better in my hand.

Now I have a question on programming. Do I select the Nyko as my input device and must the sensor be attached to my PS3 (which is fine)?

1. Yes, you will have to manually start your PS3, unless they fix it in a patch
2. Correct, leave the dongle plugged into the USB on the front
3. You will still select the Playstation as your device, the Logitech software will load all of the button config from the PS2 and it will work, you may have to go back in and play around with the settings for Pop-up menu and etc.

Got it!

And thanks so much for your input!

Going to amazon.com and ordering both the Logitech 880 and the Nyko Blue Wave remote sensor.

Do these logitech remotes have "Game" input switches, I need it to work with the Onkyo TX-605. I also need to verify if it can turn off the Onkyo. I got a Sony univeral remote that won't turn it off, but can turn it on and has no "Game" input button.

Correction: You will select the Nyko Blue Wave as the device (not PS3) when you set things up in the Logitech software.

I've got a 705, and my Harmony works well with it and all of my other equipment. When you select the AVR in the Logitech software, it already knows all of the various inputs and settings available to choose from. It really is quite simple to set it up.

I'd get my hands on one and try it out first....... find someone who has one where you can play around with it....

I got a Pronto TSU-9600 that I ultimately sent back (I'm doing the "Remote-control-Corral" right now until I settle on a remote I like.... there are remotes EVERYWHERE )

I'm looking at the Marantz RC9001 because I was able to play around with one and I liked it, but it's too much cash right now.

If you willing to dive in you could always grab a Harmony 890 which includes the RF receiver and then pick up a $50 IR2BT device. When you connect the IR2BT to the PS3 it will convert the Bluetooth signal to IR, then you would just need to put one of the RF transmitters in front of the IR2BT and "presto" you have control of the PS3.

or if the PS3 is in sight you can just use the IR2BT without the RF extender

I have the Logitech One and I think it is the sweetest thing ever. Setting up programs to turn on the tv, dvd, bluray, cable box, xbox 360 is soooo simple. The software is great, just type in the model number and it gives you the best suggestions on which inputs to use. Its great!

You can set the logitech to switch to any input on your AVR or TV. It will turn on and off your Onkyo.

Harmony One is sweet. Not 100% certain, (I don't own a PS3) but if it can be controlled by a remote then the One should work. At the very least, you can "teach" it the commands you need to operate your game system.

nope. well... not out of the box anyways lol... the PS3 has no IR port... the most practical solution for total control is the IR2BT unit which turns your IR signal into Bluetooth, the only control the PS3 accepts (aside from USB)

I was going to get one on Wednesday when they released a new batch, But the 2.40 update caused them to go haywire and they canceled the release until they find a fix.
