What part is depressing? That this kind of movie would dethrone current favorites or that Carey is back?

That so many people would go see it.

Then again, I never saw the appeal of the original, so I'm clearly not the audience at which it is aimed. And to be honest, I never really could stand Carrey in comedies. So, I guess I'm DOUBLY not the audience.

It's a little sad to me that one would be depressed simply that others would see any comedies, since the point is to laugh and enjoy it.

Still, I completely understand that each comedian's going to entertain some and not others. Sometimes it depends on my mood, but Carey has always made me laugh.

I know one time my wife (gf at the time) and I went to a comedy club and the first guy got so annoyed we weren't laughing (we were seated right in front of him.) The next guy killed us, we were laughing hysterically. Not that the first guy wasn't funny, but for me it was laugh on the inside, more amusing.

Oh yeah, comedy is very personal. I'm not generally into comedies for the most part. But the few that I like I REALLY like. I know I've said this before, but I've probably seen Mean Girls 8-10 times this year alone. Even though I own Legally Blonde, if I pass it while flipping around on the TV I'll watch it every single time. It doesn't matter that I know the whole thing by heart. I just watched This Is 40 last night, and I've seen it so many times (but I'm a huge Leslie Mann fan, so that has something to do with it). I could recite Bridesmaids from memory, and only get a few things wrong.

So, it's not that I hate comedy. I just never got the appeal of this particular one.

Just pokin' at ya, I understand.

We cracked up at her "freeench toast" and work it into regular conversation often.

I'm a huge fan of comedy, though it most often comes from specific people. I fell in love with Mr Bean as a kid, and was always into slapstick. But Monty Python, Carrey, Steve Carell, and many other sources turned me into the idiot I am today.

HA!

Now all I need to do is find a way to get Leslie away from Judd Apatow. *plotting* *plotting* *plotting*

It's my favorite 90's comedy. Have seen it countless time. Would love to see Kudrow and Suvari reunited for a sequel. If Dumb & Dumber To can happen surely that could too. That movie has really gotten a pretty strong following since hitting video and through numerous airings on TV (especially on ABC Family). I think it would at least increase upon the original's gross.

I only liked Dumb & Dumber as a kid when it first came out. Thought it was hilarious then. Have attempted watching it on TV since and haven't been able to tolerate it. It's incredibly grating.

As far as Cinemascores go, B- is pretty poor. Also, the RT audience rating is only 64%...that's a far cry from the 80%+ RT audience rating for the first film.

Ouija is a product of the Halloween time of year, that run will be over soon.

Very happy to see DD doing well. I love the leads, and the original is an absolute classic for me. I wore my VHS out as a kid, anyway looking forward to catching it.

You don't like Jim Carrey, but Kristen Wiig and Leslie Mann comedies? Please....Wiig was funny on SNL, where I would almost call her as important a cast member as anybody in the history of the show. Her movies? Not so much. The Awww shucks characters with no backbone is played out. Leslie Mann can be grating. I enjoy her in This is 40, but that is it. I hope Judd Apatow gets more than his share if they ever divorce, cause she owes him. I didn't find Mean Girls, or Legally Blonde funny. But I am not in the demographic for those films.

Comedy is subjective. Wiig has a lot in common with Carrey though.

Which doesn't explain it holding well after Halloween. Most thought it would collapse. Though it will next weekend when The Hunger Games opens. But it's still a impressive it will get to over 50 Million.
