The one I'd love is The Pope of Greenwich Village.
Another Rourke flick from MGM is Harley Davidson and the Marlboro Man which is pretty trashy but good fun. Same for Youngblood which is a great ice hockey movie. |

As for MGM, it's amazing how many forgettable movies this once-great studio has made in the last 30 years. The Pope of Greenwich VIllage and Hard Eight would not be unwelcome, however. Last edited by belcherman; 09-11-2014 at 05:00 PM. |

I never saw The Alamo, but it's always a pain to see studios letting certain films to rot. I did my part on the Twitter front, but I know MGM probably won't budge. The thing is, MGM nowadays hardly exists as a company; it's barely get its funds just from its shareholders like Sony. It's close to being what New Line has become, an in-name only brand.

BLUE STEEL has a very good chance as do both F/X movies of coming out on BD but probably not directly from MGM. I should say hopefully not from MGM as they don't have the same creative vision that Shout Factory or Kino do. At least with these guys we'll get original cover art and some extras.

However that doesn't mean somebody shouldn't do it. As was stated in the article, efforts have been made to bring in OUTSIDE resources and MGM (apparantly) blocks them. That's the real issue, if a studio like MGM has zero interest... they should literally just hand it over to some film foundation or any interested party to try and get something salvaged before it is gone forever. Such a shame. ![]() |

Not all films that need (and receive) extensive restorations are cash cows. Sometimes there are charitable foundations involved, or it's funded cooperatively between several parties. Not all of which are motivated by profits. Also key is that studios generally have considered it their responsibility to preserve their histories, whether all of the films are marketable or not most studios seem to do pretty good job of preserving things nowadays. Although as home video sales dry up, studios might start cutting back their archiving, it will be interesting if we hear more and more about films being "lost". MGM just recently emerged from BANKRUPTCY, so sadly, their financial condition likely forced some of these archiving activities to go by the wayside. It's sad they didn't seem willing to cooperate with people that likely had the noblest intentions. IMO that's an even worse crime than their failure to preserve this film in the first place. |

Because it could make them look bad to have outside forces come in. At least that's what they think according to Robert Harris.. Kind of like thinking they look weak
