I felt more emotional when the random Ewok was shot and the other went to shake him only to find him dead than any death in the prequels.

Even as a child I remember feeling choked up at that scene.

Even watching Yoda slowly lose conscious and eventually slip into darkness was pretty powerful.

Whattayagonnado.
Thank you for the sarcasm, but as I said: Anakin's twisted around by so many people for their own ends (on top of his own problems) that he takes what he deems to be the only way out: siding with Palps. And as horrible as him killing the kids is, it's not like it's come from left field: Lucas did actually make sure to have Anakin show his dark side (so to speak) when he slaughtered the Sand people in Clones.

I do agree with you, oh octagonal one, that both movies have good bits that outweigh the bad and that Sith just shades it, and as much as I like them neither are shining examples of the very best films that SW has to offer. That would be the original Star Wars and Empire.

The sail barge assault is pretty bad. The choreography of the lightsaber stuff is the worst out of all of the SW movies, it's really badly paced (it cracks me up when Luke springs off of the board and it seems like we're waiting ages for the lightsaber to drop, I always shout "shoot him shoot him shoot him!!" at the screen) and Boba Fett goes out like a biatch, dispatched with an accidental comedy death ("BURP!") that would've been torn to shreds had Lucas done anything like that in the prequels.

yup, it was pretty bad, but that tells you how awful the pt is too. even as bad as it is that Sail Barge is 2x as good as all 3 PT movies put together

and don't forget boba fett wasn't some bad ass back then. he became a thing of legend due to fans later, and during the time of the movie was just a bounty hunter with some cool armor

I remember when I first heard this I thought what bullshit it was that they changed them to Ewoks (even though as kid I loved them). But then you realize it makes sense that the Empire chose a planet with harmless teddy bears to build a shield generator, than a planet full of beings that were tech savvy and could rip their troopers arms out of their sockets.

I'm in the (original)ROTJ camp, at this point in time nostalgia wins hands down(sorry argument, I know). But ROTS wins compared to the latest version of ROTJ. I refuse to buy the blu-rays until we get the originals. (I'm one of those, but lets not go there)

Not to me it isn't. The scene in Sith when Anakin and Padme look out across Coruscant as the sun sets and Anakin sheds a tear as he realises how deep his betrayal will run is a spine-tingling moment of pure filmmaking for me. It's one of the most beautiful moments in the whole saga - Lucas letting the metaphorical visuals and the haunting music tell the story for him - never mind the prequels.

His legend has grown over the years, but even back then he was a bad mother ****er. You don't get admonished by someone as callous as Darth Vader without there being something extra-badass about him. Don't misunderstand me, I'm not sore he got killed (we'll probably see him again in the upcoming spin offs anyway) but it's the ridiculous way that he gets offed. Han doesn't blast him inbetween the eyes, he simply bumps his jetpack and poor old Boba gets greedily gobbled up by the Sarlacc. Hilarious.

Hey, if you liked the Ewoks as a kid, no reason to hate them now. if you want a more adult themed Star Wars trilogy, I think we're about it get it!

Palps has already craftily laid the germ of her salvation in Anakin's mind with his opera speech about Plagueis' powers, so when it comes to the crunch Anakin chooses this path. Some might call it selfish, but he's spent the whole movie being leaned upon by everyone else which is why he does what he does for his own good and for the good of Padme.

Sith actually has a plot in and of itself, unlike Jedi which is simply one big third act, and even though the Padme broken heart thing is BEYOND daft, it doesn't derail the film for me. I could say the same thing about a bunch of teddy bears defeating an entire legion of the Emperor's best troops. If you're digging the film, you go with such silliness, if you don't, it becomes The Worst Thing Ever because that is the nature of things. There's no place for a middle ground, not when George Lucas' work is involved. Me, I like both films (crazy, I know) but Sith just wins out.
It would've been awesome...had the movie been as good as that description. Haha!

There was no internet back then and the letters section of STARLOG wasn't like today's comment boards where people (viciously) just complained about stuff.

But yeah, I got the impression from my fellow (older) fans that the Ewoks were pretty weak. But that was word of mouth and the occasional article or review.

No. Just no.

Duel of Fates, the opera dialogue in Sith, Kenobi v Jango on Kamino, the reveal of the underwater city in TPM, the 'rescue' of Palpatine...there were plenty of things in the PT that more than trumped the sail barge sequence.

Boba Fett? Boba Fett where? Is Timmy in trouble, girl? I think she wants us to follow her.

Gaaaaaaaaaaaaaawd that was awful.

It's a well known statistic that alcoholics dont like Ewoks.

Hearing how any of the prequel movies are more liked than any of the OT films hurts my head.

You wouldn't think so but we can indeed be a finicky bunch.

Truth be told, Jedi wasn't a very good movie. The Luke/Vader/Palpatine showdown was very good but the rest was very meh. The dialogue was terrible, Harrison Ford was just going through the motions, the chases were all extremely derivative (I mean, another trench run but this time inside the Death Star which reminds me...another Death Star??? please) and the overall pacing was terrible.

Is Sith a great movie? No, it's got a lot of problems too. But it doesn't have to be great to be better than Jedi and it kind of is.

Boba Fett goes out like a biatch, because he's nothing but a biatch. He's a fan favorite only because of his cool costume. He does nothing except stand around. He's as bad-ass as Lobot.
