20th Century Fox Exodus: Gods and Kings 3D Blu-ray (2014) [Region Free]

This is definitely one of my most anticipated movies of the year. Even more so after seeing the 3D trailer on the X-Men Days of Future Past disc. The 3D looks fantastic and the visuals are stunning. I love this story so i cannot wait to see it delivered with a budget this large and state of the art FX.

Yep, I saw the trailer on X-Men: DOFP, too. Looked very impressive.

That trailer looks great in 3D !!

Seeing Joel Edgerton with those shaped eyebrows and eyeliner is kinda creepy though.

Ridley Scott means I'm in, whether 3d or 2d. Hopefully the 3d is as well used as it was in Prometheus (maybe with just a bit more depth present).

Looking forward to this and the last Hobbit movie. Previews looked great except for Sigourney Weaver who to me looks out of place in this movie. She doesn't look right in her costume.

It looks absolutely gorgeous and the drama looks epic and palpable! Can't wait to see Ridley Scott's return to the historical epic! The 3d I've seen in the trailers too is absolutely beautiful too!

I'm excited too. Between this and Five Armies, December is going to be an awesome month.

I'm seeing this more for Scott and the cast than any religious implications. I thought the 3D trailer looked great.

Yeah, I'm interested in the visuals, special effects and story of brother against brother. And mostly the very promising 3D in this one. The Interesting cast helps out too, along with Ridley Scott behind it.

Hopefully Prometheus 2 3D is next on Ridley's "to do" list.

I'm hoping the 3d blu-ray comes out before passover. I guess that would be March 31. Not sure they would release it that soon.

Saw this yesterday and the 3d was a mixed bag. It starts of very mild and later starts having some more medium and strong shoots. Though it oddly and inconsistently goes from medium to heavy depth to no depth (their where some completely 2d shoots present).

Their is more depth on display and some very strong shoots, but overall it is a step down from Prometheus which did more with its more conservative depth, mainly as this presentation is wildly inconsistent.

The film itself was average to simply bad. It has a long running time, yet rushes through important aspects
[Show spoiler]his relationship with his wife is they meet and suddenly get married for example
, and don't give enough depth to the characters or their motivations.

Most of the acting is acceptable but unremarkable with a few exceptions (Christian Bale and it looks like Namoi Raprace in a very minor role
[Show spoiler]as Noah's sister, though she isn't credited or maybe it is someone else, the amount of makeup and costume work present makes it difficult to tell
). Likewise god is shown to essentially be an incompetent half wit throughout (simply treating him/her/it as a character in a film) it showed no sense of intelligence that whilst it had immense power had no plan and just did stuff because why not. Then again I think that was the point as Ridley doesn't seem to have a very high opinion on religion, the problem is it wasn't particularly well done within the film. Even at 2 and a half hours it fells like a film that needed another hour to flesh everything out. Maybe/hopefully we will get the proper cut at home like happened with Kingdom of Heaven (which I felt the same way about the theatrical cut).

One does wonder why Scott continues to make these Biblical type films unless he is trying to be ironic.

The problem with the whole God thing is that he/she/it constantly behaves like a petulant child and has far more in common with a garden variety psychopath/sociopath than any sort of 'divine' being who is trying to teach people how they should behave.

Thanks for the feedback on the 3D. It sounds decent and glad to hear there are strong 3D shots in the film. The trailer's 3D looked high medium to strong, though they can tamper with the trailer separately, so trailers aren't always a true indicator of the final film's 3D, as we saw with Pirate of the Caribbean: Stranger Tides, which had stronger 3D in the trailer, which wasn't present in the final film.

I'll see this as a fan of Ridley Scott's presentations and movies, and hope it's entertaining.

I am a Christian but do I/we really expect Hollywood to portray God (Judeo/Christian) in a correct way? Not really. But I'm not one of those who is too uptight to see it anyway. It has certainly sparked enough intrigue already where some will go check out and read how the story truly goes for themselves and that is a good thing. The story doesn't end when they walk out of Egypt...

Well the 'correct' way is up for interpretation. Honestly if you remove any connections to who you or anyone else believe him to be, in this portion of the story he isn't exactly a well though out entity, nor his actions moral or good. The film captures that, but it fells like things where cut or the film maker was held back as the studio felt some may find it insulting (amusingly as it is closer to what he is in the bible then more or less any film I can think of).

Anyway it will be interesting to see what others think of the 3d.

On the question of morality I think the action of saving a legion of people (who had been slaves for generations at this time) from oppression says all you need to say about One's character or morality, that is unless you overly concern yourself with sympathizing with the oppressors whose full extent of despicable actions over thousands of years of slavery is of course cannot be fully shown here nor fully known to us today (but an infinite God would have remembered at the time of Exodus). I remember from reading the actual story that even then at that time, after all that they did, He gave them opportunity after opportunity to let them go without bloodshed but they would not

My only concern was what they would "add" to the story as Noah seemed to do with the giant rock monsters and countless other questionable choices. But this looks like it should be a better film and a spectacle in 3D. I can't wait
