Several on ESPN have Ohio State passing TCU based on beating Minnesota while TCU nearly lost to Kansas.

On its surface that seems reasonable.

Until you realize TCU beat Minnesota earlier this year. Destroyed them in fact.

Why is the Minnesota that Ohio State played an impressive win, but the one TCU played doesn't matter?

They need to go to an 8(or even 6, NFL style) team playoff. If they want to claim there are 5 power conferences, you can't just arbitrarily decide to leave one champ out. Or two, if the SEC gets two teams out of 4.

Why it is that the powers that be in College football like the rampant stupidity that is arbitrarily deciding which teams are worthy of a chance at a championship instead of playing it out on the field, like every other sport, I'll never know.

Even worse, if the SEC East wins, you could end up with 3 conference champions left out....

Conference Champions are over-rated....

It's now only the National Championship that matters....

And not who "Won" the 'Dungaree Bowl'....

At, the end of the regular season.....

The two best teams need to play for the NC. Nothing more.

I actually wonder if any power conferences consider doing away with conf title games in the future. Let's face facts. Conference title games tend to hurt conferences more than they help when it comes to getting their teams in national title contention. Last year The Big Ten having a conf title game cost Ohio St. a national title game. Same Could Happen This Year If Bama or Oregon lost their conference title game. Meanwhile The Big 12 teams have an advantage in not needing to play that extra tough conf title game.

Brett McMurphy is reporting that Rich Rod and Dan Mullen will not be candidates for the Florida job.

And I'm sure you have a brilliant way to know who the best two teams are, right?

One that relies on neither the "Eye" Test, nor the "Well, they were highly rated out of high school" test?

Yeah, Bruce Feldman was saying that Mullen and Jeremy Foley didn't have the best relationship when he was the OC at Florida. I'm sure this is BS, but Dabo Swinneys name has been mentioned as a potential candidate. I can't imagine he would leave Clemson, he has a really good thing going there.

A four team playoff won't ceate any less controversy than a top-2 that we've had for the past 14 or so years. You really have to get to 8 or 16 teams (which every other level of college football has) in order to get a playoff system that doesn't create a lot of controversy. I do think eventually D1 will expand to an 8 team playoff, it will just take time.

Take him and CU will hire Morris. He's the brains of the offense.

UF definitely isn't getting anywhere close to a top-tier coach. They might end up worse off than they would be had they kept Muschamp on as HC. I can't see Dabo going there either. The Gators are a rebuilding project with a fan base that has unrealistic expectations of winning right now. Dabo won't want any part of that. He's better off at Clemson.

I think UF will get a top-tier coach. It's still a high-paying job in the best conference with a rich history and in the top recruiting area. They may not get a top name like Bob Stoops, but they'll get someone well known.

WTF? I've been a critic of their SoS but I'm having a hard time believing FSU should be behind Bama and Oregon in the playoff rankings. And it does appear Mississippi St. just has to win out and they'll make the top-4. It looks like this new playoff committee is going to be even more controversial than the old BCS formula... You win Spurrier Sucks. I have no logical explanation for these rankings.

1 Alabama 9-1
2 Oregon 9-1
3 Florida State 10-0
4 Mississippi State 9-1
5 TCU 9-1
6 Ohio State 9-1
7 Baylor 8-1
8 Ole Miss 8-2
9 UCLA 8-2
10 Georgia 8-2

UGA is top 10 based off beating Auburn and losing to 2 terrible SEC teams? Lol

Hopefully Baylor has learned their lesson and starts scheduling harder teams out of conference.

Mississippi State didn't.

And frankly LSU/Auburn/Texas A&M aren't as impressive of wins as they appeared to be at the time they happened, especially since only LSU was on the road.

"You have to schedule tough non-conference games. Unless you are SEC of course, those guys get a totally free pass". Whee.

They have the advantage of being in the SEC West.

That may be more ridiculous than a SEC team dropping 1-3 spots after losing. SEC teams jump 5-8 spots after winning. A loss doesn't hurt them. It's a fixed system. ESPN has too much influence over this and has for years.

We should all hope this is how it stays. If a one loss Big 12 and a one loss Big 10 team are left out then all hell will break loose. Those commissioners will not stand for it and 8 teams will be coming soon! Next year soon!
