Having seen THE BUBBLE many times over the past 38 years, I can tell you that it has never before looked this good.
Check out the restoration notes in this article: http://www.3dfilmarchive.com/home/The-Bubble |

I read that earlier, that's what I meant by limited resources: a faded, ill-treated negative and not enough cash for a wetgate transfer so it had to be painstakingly restored frame by frame. Bravo, sir!

No it ain't.

Not a gorehound. I've seen too much of it in life to run towards it for entertainment. I'd rather watch the film that doesn't push entrails in my face, thank you. |

Got The Bubble 3D early! It works well in 3D. The shots are gimmicky and cheesy but I enjoyed it (the movie is slow, but the 3D will keep you going). Glad Kino did not do what Paramount did with Friday the 13th Part 3 3D and make it the old way where you use the cardboard glasses and the video looks horrible. Kino made The Bubble for us 3D TV owners and it pays off! Wished more older films would be released in digital 3D!

I just finished watching this and it was a lot of fun! The 3D depth was very impressive, as it has been on all these vintage 3D lensed films.
I do not want to be disrespectful to the hard work that went into restoring this film, but I thought it was a little jarring that there was consistent dirt in the picture from the beginning till the nineteen minute mark where it goes pristine, that I found a little distracting. I am grateful just to see this released and I recommend it to anyone that enjoys 3D. |

ugh just talked to Amazon. They said it would take 4-7 weeks to get the movie from the supplier, and then they ship it. That is why it is saying January. It never said it would take that long when I pre-ordered and I assumed shipped/sold by amazon meant they'd have it ready to ship on release date.

Got mine in the mail yesterday. I watched till the plane landed and they attempted to talk to the taxi driver. I was impressed with the 3D and was not put off by the acting or dialogue. This along with the EE of Desolation of Smaug will be watched on Thanksgiving Day. Keep up the good work 3D Film Archive.

Just finished watching this in 3D.
Firstly, I've never seen this film. I've always wanted to, but something always told me if I can't manage to see it properly, as it was meant to be seen - in 3D, then I didn't want to bother. I got the feeling this would best be enjoyed in 3D. I'm glad I waited. The film itself is a mixed bag. I thought the acting was quite good for this type of film. The plot was basic but acceptable. It felt like an overly-long Twilight Zone episode. It kept my interest but it did move pretty slowly. I guarantee by the time the film is over, the amusement park music will be playing repeatedly in your head for days to come. Don't say I didn't warn you. You hear it endlessly throughout the film. The film seemed disjointed at times, and I believe that may be because of missing scenes. Overall, I enjoyed it. The 3D presentation was spectacular. This film is yet another example of classic 3D films putting current-generation 3D films to crying shame. If you like out-of-the-screen 3D effects, this will be your favorite new 3D blu-ray. It's absolutely packed with 3D gimmicks, beginning to end, and the 3D effects really do come right out of the screen. I was actually astonished at some of the shots, and just how far out of the screen they came. That scene in the bar you hear about with the floating tray is a doozy, but there are many more examples throughout the film. The 3D was also very well aligned - I saw no issues with alignment, and there was minimal to no crosstalk. I only saw crosstalk in a few scenes, and those were scenes with extreme depth. The color definitely shifted after the first couple reels, and it was a pretty noticeable improvement. The first couple reels leaned towards a brownish tint - but colors became much more natural after those first couple reels. There was a lot of dirt and specs throughout the film, but after you watch the restoration comparison, you'll realize just how much work went into the restoration. It's not a Wizard of Oz grade restoration by any means, but you shouldn't expect that. I think they did a pretty great job with the picture restoration. My only real issue is the audio sync. It is off for I would say the majority of the run time. Sometimes it's just a bit off, sometimes it's way, way off. It's certainly far more than just a couple scenes. Right through to the final reels the audio still goes out of sync regularly. That is sure to annoy people. At times it was bad enough that it felt like I was watching an Italian 80's horror film with sloppy English dubbing. It's that bad. Still, as a huge 3D fan, especially of classics like this, it's a must-own. I was thrilled to get the chance to see this properly - in 3D - in my own home. I hope this leads to other classics getting released in 3D. I believe Flesh For Frankenstein was filmed in this "SpaceVision" process if I'm correct - I'm sure that must look spectacular in 3D, and I hope someday that gets a proper 3D release. This is a flawed presentation, but I believe all their effort went into the 3D presentation itself, and let's face it - this is the real reason to watch this film. Normally I'd have a tough time recommending a blu-ray with sync issues this bad, but the 3D is so exceptional that I can forgive the audio issues. |
