Smile Umbrellas of Cherbourg

You younger folk have a real teary-treat in store if you can stand sung films with subtitles--- and Oscar-winning, best-selling music and the beautiful Catherine Denueve at her 1970s most gorgeous!
I'm speaking of Jacques Demy's superb "jazz-opera," UMBRELLAS OF CHERBOURG, a bittersweet love story of the first order.
When it was released I saw grown "sophisticated" New Yorkers, male and female, with tears streaming at the conclusion! And it's a GOOD ending, too!

Check it out. Recently on Blu-ray and on Turner Classic Movies this month for its Oscar-win (song). Great post-valentine evening.

A young boy who longs for love and attention from his widower father Roberto (Bekim Fehmiu) who is preoccupied with work and his secret new girlfriend Veronica (Augusta Belli).

After meeting and getting to accept Veronica while the 3 are on holiday, Luca then persuades his father to go on a skiing holiday with him alone to catch "The Last Snows of Spring".

Whilst skiing Luca collapses and is diagnosed with Leaukemia and only a very short time left to live. His Father is racked with guilt of the neglect of his son and does his best to make it up to Luca before he dies.

Anyone else seen this movie ?
Heartbreaking, saw it as a child and it stuck with me.

Jurassic Park. When they first see the dinosaurs, I just burst into tears. And then there's John Williams' score.....

I fought back tears seeing it in the theater & even catching this on TV occasionally gets me choked up. No other movie gets me so emotional.

Well, if I were to post every movie I cried at, you would think I'm the biggest sap in history, so I'll only post a few.

PS I Love You... I cried from beginning to end.
I Am Sam... tugged at a lot of strings
Molly ... tugged at a few as well
Steel Magnolias... when Sally Field started crying, I was done for.
Hachi... to this day I have a difficult time watching the rest of the movie after Richard Gere's character died. I love dogs!

Now I've cried at a few more, but I would take up a whole page.

Interstellar, seemed to hit me on a personal level. The theme of "letting go" was quite a strong undercurrent.

Most recently? Interstellar. Those of you who have seen it know the scene.

I remember watching this one not far after I lost my 12 year old dog. The whole movie is really sad, but I definitely lost it when
[Show spoiler]Hachi finally passes away at the end of the movie and it shows him being reunited with his master in the afterlife
.
