People critique all the politics and complex story-lines of the PT, but I really hope the new trilogy doesn't throw away great lore like that for a simplified Empire vs the good guys story.
Someone agrees with me about Star Wars on the internet!!!

I ****in' despise people who sit there and spend time to put fake shit on the Internet. I hate them almost as much as people who fire up Photoshop the second they find out a movie is coming out and make an ugly fan poster or manipulation.

Way to alienate people and make friends on a forum. Maybe the animation was made with the intent to deceive, or maybe not. Why so much hate for people who make fan posters? If people have a talent (of course I mean skill), they just want to contribute or share. It isn't usually meant to deceive, at least not by the artist.

Rare Behind-the-Scenes Photos From the Set of the Original 'Star Wars'

Hopefully Ep7's new cast will be as memorable as the first cast of Star Wars.

I really don't care if the Falcon looks a little different. It's no surprise that it will have changed/upgraded in 30 years.

Exactly. I *want* it to look different. Not drastically, but I want to notice.

Also, since it's been mentioned I really like how the Prequels introduced a slew of new vehicles and robots and the like. However, I do wish they would have been more in line with the original trilogy and made vehicles that looked like older versions of what we've seen...but in 'new' condition.

And I loved how 'clean' everything looked pre-war.

I'm with you on the 'clean' vehicles, the whole point of the look of the prequels was to show the Republic in its pomp and then you get hit with the grubby 'used future' aesthetic of the originals. But as you say, it would've been nice to have seen a few more OT vehicles (aside from the Tantive IV) looking spick and span, just to make that connection between the two trilogies a bit more tangible.

Hell, they should've had the Falcon in there as a proper ship looking shiny and beautiful, not as some tiny easter egg in Clones. It would've made Obi-Wan's "should I have?" line to Han in the Cantina all the more ironic. But because Lucas was so desperate to avoid explicit links to the OT after getting burned by the "Madmartigan is Han" comments about Willow, he made sure there was no sarky Han-type character (that's who Anakin should've been IMO) and he left out most of the classic ships and even the freakin' streakin' starfield effect. He was so intent on moving away from the OT (or rather subverting it) and making the prequels free from studio interference that he lost sight of what made the OT so great (well, two-thirds of it anyway).

Actually, I think that was just another lame excuse they used to make a bunch of flashy effects with the new cgi they'd figured out how to render.

Hah! That's part of it, yes, but seeing as we're going to the very heart of the Republic and not the arse-end of nowhere I wouldn't have expected everything to look dirty and grubby in the prequels. And how many people would've begrudged seeing the Falcon done up all shiny and purdy?

As is so often with Lucas the idea was sound but the execution was lacking: the PT looks SO crisp and clean and digitally antiseptic versus the analogue spit 'n' polish of the OT that there's this massive visual disconnect between the two trilogies, and having more OT vehicles (or just the Falcon and some streaking starfields, even) could've made that transition a lot less jarring to the audience.

You can, she lands at the platform several decks below Anakin & Obi-Wan's shuttle after their crash landing in Sith. She has some blue stripes on her.

Streaking starfields were deliberately left out, Lucas wants you to watch them I-VI and wanted to keep the reveal of the effect in IV.

Imperial hardware is pretty new and shiny in the OT (except the walkers, which are probably battle worn). Cloud City is clean. It's only Rebel and backwater (Tatooine) hardware that has that "lived in" look. I don't think there's a disconnect.

Like I said above, a tiny easter egg doesn't count. And I know exactly why Lucas left the starfields out, what I'm saying is I don't agree with it because it removed another Star Wars touchstone from the PT. For me there's a massive gulf between the two trilogies in terms of their appearance.
