Default Ingmar Bergman on Blu-ray

Film has dream, film has music. No form of art goes beyond ordinary consciousness as film does, straight to our emotions, deep into the twilight room of the soul.

Good listing. Most countries seem to have the same titles (apart from AE's Early Bergman set), perhaps these are the films that have HD-ready masters so far. It's interesting that Sweden has only one Bergman BD. Is it that HD tech itself has a low penetration or do the Swedes care less for Bergman than other countries?

Does anyone own some of the foreign releases of Bergman's films? I'm interested in purchasing a few which haven't been released by Criterion.

I doubt the releases from Germany, France, Japan, Spain have English subtitles.
If you don't have it already(and if you are region free). You really should get UK Classic Bergman set.

I would have to think Criterion will be announcing The Virgin Spring within the next few months.

I hope Criterion release Cries and Whispers and the trilogy in the near future.

Cries and Whispers was apparently a big seller on dvd so I'm surprised we haven't got that one already. Hasn't a HD transfer been done yet?

I would certainly hope so, as it is breathtakingly beautiful and tragic.

I do have a feeling that Cries and Whispers, which I still have to see, will find its way on to Blu-ray prior to The Virgin Spring.

I'm personally hoping for a Criterion upgrade of Sawdust and Tinsel, but I have a feeling this will probably be the last one they get to. If anyone has the Artificial Eye disc, can they comment on whether it is a big upgrade on the CC DVD?

Are you interested in blu-ray only or will DVD satisfy you? If DVD is good enough for you, I would pick up the Tartan UK releases through Amazon UK. There are a good number of titles that never made it on DVD over in the USA. Between the Criterion releases (Eclipse, DVD, & blu-ray), the MGM box set, and the Tartan UK releases you can have a fairly comprehensible Bergman collection.

Hopefully Scenes from a Marriage is not too far off in the United States.

The Virgin Spring is one of my favorite Bergman films, so hopefully we'll see an upgrade in 2015. I've been holding off on getting the DVD since I figured there would be a BD release sooner rather than later.

I sure hope so as I absolutely love it. In fact, we still need The Faith Trilogy.

So many things!

Can we please add Cries and Whispers to the US releases? Just too amazing a film and release to not be listed. Thanks.

This really is a great idea for a thread. I hope this keeps being updated and more gets announced via Criterion!
