Now think about about, I will basically spend all my live involved with Star Wars. I started watching the original trilogy around 1985 and I spent all that time watching and loving every minute of it, then came the Phantom Menace and the new trilogy which were almost 15 years, and now this new trilogy that will steal another 10-15 years of it... so in other words. I need a life, it's too much Star Wars for one lifetime...

But Luke and company just saved the galaxy. There's nothing really worthwhile that could follow and top that and warrant another trilogy. It's like if someone tried to make a follow-up to Lord of the Rings. The story has been told and everyone just needs to move on.

Well, as in real life, there is always times of conflict and war. Peace never lasts forever. Thinking that there will be peace forever is unrealistic after The Emperor falls down to his death or an evil ring is chucked into a volcano. There may be peace for some time but there always are troublemakers starting up conflict.

Cool story bro.

Apparently interested enough to lay that egg of a post here anyway.

If you couldn't be less interested, you wouldn't be reading this thread, much less posting here.

As for me, I don't know how to feel about it.
I am probably one of the few, who is sad that George Lucas isn't writing and directing these anymore, and frankly, the OT was far less complex than the PT, which is very profound in many a way.

I am just concerned that it's just fan service now. All about the money.

Say what you will about George Lucas, at least he had integrity, and did what he wanted, and not what fans expected of him, at least for the most part.

On the other hand, I do enjoy J.J. Abrams' films, and think the ST movies he did, are almost like SW in the ST universe, so I remain cautiously optimistic.

Yeah right up until he became the very thing that he fought against in his younger years........and he became full of himself.

Nah, I'm not buying that. He's chased the dollar more than any other movie maker, IMHO.

WHICH IS FINE. He has employed countless people and made countless more happy with what he created in his quest for wealth, and I fault him for none of it.

I may disagree with where the story went, and would have liked to see more this and less that, but that's anyone who enjoys something so much.

Abrams is a fan, yes...but he is a talented fan. And yes, the desire is to make money off the franchise, it it was just to shut it up and lock it in a vault somewhere never to be used again it wouldn't be worth a Billion dollars to anyone.

I want Disney to make their money back, I want Abrams to be a success. How much they make is dependent solely on how high a quality of product they're able to deliver. Droids and Ewok related merchandise back in the 80s made little to no money--it was a money grab. The quality was poor, and even the kids knew it. And because it lacked everything notable and magical about Star Wars, it did not elicit the same excitement as the films.

Abrams and Disney want it to succeed, and any 'fandering' you might see will be no more and--sadly--probably no less than what the Lucas Led prequels had in store.

And remember, there is no more egregious 'fandering' done than to wedge more Boba Fett into the OT re-releases. He even stared at the screen, and I swear I thought he as about to wave before they did the circle wipe away.

Check out some of the EU book series. There's some really great stories in there. They help you see how big that universe is. Think of the movies that we've seen as only a small section of it. The Skywalker bloodline alone has huge potential and ramifications on the star wars universe.
Or, think of it this way, George Lucas already had an outline for this new trilogy so this is still basically all part of the plan.

I honestly don't know what to think. I certainly have reservations. The prequels sucked. The revisions to the Holy Trilogy(especially the Hayden ghost, Vader now being told Luke is his son by Palpatine, and "NOOOO!" added when Vader kills Palpatine) have nearly ruined those films for me(thank God for the "Despecialized Editions"). I'm concerned that the original cast members are way past their prime to be reprising these roles. Hell, I'm even worried about a Star Wars movie opening with the Disney studio logo and music instead of the Newman Fox fanfare.

I hope Abrams is up to the challenge. He did manage to revitalize Mission: Impossible and Star Trek(at least til Into Darkness), so we'll see if he can work his magic with Star Wars.

And yes, I'm checking out the teaser this weekend if this story is legit. The good news is there are movies I wanna see, so I don't have to get up and leave once it's over.

They won't be playing the teaser anywhere near me so I'm hoping to see a bootleg version of it on YouTube before Friday night. And I'll be happy with that.

Well, I'll admit that the prequels have some problems, but so do the originals. That's why I don't place either one on a supreme pedestal. My main beef with the Special Editions is that ridiculous "Jedi Rocks" sequence from "Return of the Jedi"; everything else is negligible by comparison. Similarly, my main conflict with the PT is Lucas caving into fan pressure over Jar Jar Binks, when he spent years talking about "his vision" all the time. I still like "Star Wars" very much, and I'm hoping this new one lives up to the hype.

The biggest concern I have right now is that everything we are hearing about this film is not very encouraging in terms of story. It is standard stuff - Luke turning to the dark side, Vader/Emperor returning in some fashion, etc. It is fine for the novels as you are weaving a bigger story that is going to happen over a number of books but for the movies, they just won't work as well. The fact that JJ seems to want to go in that direction instead of expanding the Star Wars universe scares me. Take Nolan's Batman - has divided the audience to an extent but wouldn't it have been easy to do like the earlier films and have Joker as your villian right away and use Joker, Penguin, Riddler and Catwoman as your villians for the 3 films? Yet he went a different approach which surprised the audience and helped expand the Batman movie universe beyond what the audience expected. Why can't they do the same here? Why does Luke, Han and the gang need to be such a large part of the film? From what we heard, it wasn't like they weren't part of the original script, just not a large part. It just seems like they are banking on that warm feeling everyone will get from seeing the original cast together again instead of focusing on the best movie possible.

To get a response, obviously.

There are thousands, upon thousands, of films I couldn't care less about.
Here's what I don't do: Post in their threads.

Hearing what from Who, anything heard atmo is speculation as nothing has been officially released by JJ and Co.

Exactly. EVERYTHING we've heard up to this point in terms of story has been purely rumor and speculation. Anyone saying he or she is disappointed or worried at this point is just being negative for negativity's sake (or is insanely gullible and believes everything he or she reads on the internet).

Nobody knows anything about the story.

Everything we know plot-wise is based purely on gossip, speculation, and assumption.

My guess is that like most things, this will get leaked and released to the masses a bit early. We've seen it a couple of times recently, Avengers, and now again today with Jurassic World.

Oh, it'll get leaked. It's Star Wars after all.
