Oh, right. The ships in the teaser (it's hardly the whole movie ) still look plenty digital to me, but everything else certainly looks REAL, yeah. In some ways this movie could end up being the greatest modern expression of what Lucas always tried to do with Star Wars, to push the envelope of VFX whilst telling a great story. He felt the VFX was lacking on the original movies (and he wasn't the only one, go ask Richard Edlund or Dennis Muren about how they feel about working with miniatures) but the stories worked like gangbusters, and the situation was reversed on the prequels, with shiny wall-to-wall VFX but stories that lacked the warmth and humour and spunk of the originals.

If this new movie can balance BOTH, it could be very special indeed.

Maybe I just didn't take the time to examine them that closely. I'm not saying you are one of these people, but I have a sneaking suspicion that a lot of fanboys saw the movie, then read about the CGI clones on the net after the fact, and then proceeded to shout and complain about how fake they looked.

And I am sure JJ didn't set out to screw up Trek either, but he did. From just the trailer I am already seeing a lot of the same things he did there being done here - redesign of things(phasers/lightsabers) that make no sense, tons of cgi to make ships do things they never did before but for no reason other than it looks cool(X-wings over water). Time will tell.
My thing with the redesign on things here is that this is set many many years after the OT. Therefore it stands to reason that technology would have changed and advanced in that time. I thought Abram's Trek was great as well, and I still love the older films before you start saying I'm desecrating the memory of Trek or something. I'm not a Trekker/ie by any means, but I can love both movie series. Same with Star Wars. I don't care what people will say about this movie on release I am going in with wide open arms looking for a good time. And if you thought there was obvious CGI in the teaser (it all looked spiffy to me), please remember that we are still over a year away from seeing this thing finished in the theater. Something tells me the only reason we even got this teaser this early is fan outcry. JJ probably would have held it back a bit longer if he could have.

I've always loved the look of the CG troopers EXCEPT when they take their helmets off in Sith, for which they grafted Tem Morrison's head onto a digital body, it looks sooooo bad.

What needs to make sense in a series of movies, where someone is choked from across a room. Or someone is guided on their mission by Ghosts. Instead of asking if it makes sense, it should be is it practical. And in a Galaxy far far away it is.

I'm reading many negative comments about the lightsaber. I think it's something new and fresh so I like it and hopefully JJ doesn't change it. Also I thought the teaser would be shorter. Now I cannot wait until they give us the first official trailer.

All the non Star Wars fans being cynical little a holes on here can go to hell and die.

This movie is not for you, and neither is Star Wars. I hope you find something in life that pleases you but that obviously dôes not involve the franchise I have watched since a small child.

You are gonna feel like douche bags while everyone on earth falls in love all over again.

I'm sorry JJ could not build a flying falcon or x wings and had to use cg... Get a damn life.

Boo hoo the "teaser" did not show me everything or answer questions. (Because teasers like the age of ultron usually show more than quick random scenes)

People like all of you crying about this are the reason why terrorists want to kill us

This is a very level and reasonable response.

Maybe if your personality and existence hinges on a movie you need to reevaluate yourself and your place in the world.

Don't care for the horrendous shaky camera style (M. Bay) used with the ships. Not crazy about the goofy looking lightsaber either. What's next?,... a corkscrew lightsaber? a bull whip lightsaber?

I don't know about that last part about terrorists, but, yeah, I agree with everything else. People are being too damn cynical about this and for no good reason than it's not Star Wars 1977 or The Empire Strikes Back. If some Star Wars fans only want those films, you still have them to watch anytime. But some of us are actually very interested in seeing the universe expand into other films.

I'm sure we'll see lots of practical effects, this is only a brief teaser after all.

I'm more annoyed about not seeing any of the original cast. Kind of a bad idea not to include them in the teaser if you ask me.

I wasn't paying attention back then, but did diehard SW fans have a conniption fit when Darth Maul showed up with a double-ended lightsaber in The Phantom Menace? (Or, maybe they had a conniption fit over the entire movie?)

I think the latest iTunes exclusive teaser trailer is awesome! I'm quite excited to see the movie, particularly with JJ Abrams at the helm! We'll definitely get LOTS of action, LOTS of fun, and LOTS of lens flare!

As for this newfangled lightsaber with built-in butane torches to caramelize the sugar on your crème brûlée, so what? So it's something different. Big deal! It's a completely new movie set years in the future past ROTJ. You don't think Sith Lords would be tinkering in their garage during those years?

It's fiction, folks! Fiction designed to entertain. Anytime anyone takes Star Wars too insanely serious, I am instantly reminded of this:

Is this the same brain speaking that said the trailer looks homemade and fake??? Yeah I don't really care what you think then.

You are gonna love this movie, just accept it and your life will be easier.

Okay, for all of us Happy Fans like Manunited, it may be time for us to leave this thread and continue to anticipate this movie in peace. Because this thread is soon to turn into a flame war where blood and tears will be shed on both sides with no side winning in the end. You can't argue with people on things like this. So let us take our leave and let the cynics have their day. We shall have our victorious uprising next December 15th.

I would say no. The issue now is that people are either Jaded, or have an online character they role play as.

I just cannot understand why people spend more time talking about what they do not like, more than what they do like.

I quite enjoy the space fantasy that is Star wars in all its forms.

Floating head!

They'll never beat actual people in actual costume, imo.
