It's likely just a repackage, so don't get your hopes up.

It's been almost a decade since they first announced, then yanked an upgraded Special Edition DVD with Singer / Spacey commentary, extended making-of documentaries, and other new extras. It was meant to ride the anticipation wave for Superman Returns. Fingers crossed they FINALLy decided to put that version out there, but not holding my breath.

Will only re-buy this on Blu if they include the extras from the 2002 SE DVD.

They've got to include the 2006 extras, too. I know they were completed because that version was announced twice (the second time in 2007 or something) with the same special features listed. For some reason it never came out. My only concern is whether or not 20th Century Fox is aware those extras exist, given that was either MGM still as themselves, or MGM at Sony.

New extras would be fine, but I rarely watch extras much anymore. Just put the 2002 extras on Blu, and I'd be happy.

Mainly I want to hear Singer / Spacey commentary.

I wonder if Fox will jump into the Neo Case game, starting with this release!

Cover art:

Just appears to be the regular release + UV code (just like the Dances with Wolves anniversary release). Don't really care for the cover art myself, especially the spine with all the mugshot faces on it.

Also reminds me of this Fox release of 12 Angry Men in the UK

I really don't like it when the studios put "Digital HD" on the cover art. Once a code is redeemed, the Digital Copy is "gone". Anything advertising a Digital Copy should be removable, such as a sticker or faceplate.

That's a good point. I sell all my codes, first thing, so I'd be all for that banner nonsense going away. It's all detailed on the back anyway.

So no new encode, no new extras, and ho-hum artwork = sticking with my digibook!

At least their "Digital HD" banner is small, unlike some of the other studios.

The Terminator
Robocop
Rocky

Fargo
Rain Man

Obviously, it would be best if they could re-release every single movie in newly restored 4K quality, but that's not realistic. In my book, they are allowed a couple of misses now and then, like this one.

Warner and Universal - they suck. Warner BETTER NOT mess up the 25th anniversary Goodfellas release. Or else... I will complain extra hard on Internet forums.

To those who were hoping for a new master, there is a Scandinavian and Japanese Paramount release of The Usual Suspects, which uses the same outdated master, but encoded with an AVC codec and a very high bit rate as opposed to this low bit rate MPEG 2 release. Still bare bones though. A very tiny improvement, but an improvement nonetheless.

If this were cheap enough, I might buy it, mainly because the current BD I have is in a DVD-sized case, so I can't keep it on the shelf with my other BDs. After selling the UV code, I should be able to move the DVD disc with the extras into this.

Well, obviously I was referring to their treatment of The Usual Suspects... but since you bring them up...

The Terminator - No mono
Robocop - No stereo surround
The Good, the Bad and the Ugly - No theatrical cut

...and for good measure

A Fish Called Wanda - no mono.

So, yeah, they sometimes suck!
