Huh?
The other kid was more trained, but not very natural. I think that's pretty evident in the footage. Lloyd might have screwed up his lines, but his good takes were superior to the other kids.

Well, then he wasn't the "better actor" was he?

I used to be much easier on JL and the casting of little Anakin in general, but after seeing the magnificent casting job done on the younger parts in HBO's Game of Thrones, it's painfully obvious how much of a misfire it was.

There are some great child actors out there, you just have to look for the right qualities (and not just "cute", as they went for with Lloyd).

Though, on the other hand, it's not like Lloyd was alone in giving a lackluster performance in the PT.

Not to beat a dead horse but Lucas was able to make Sam Jackson, Natalie Portman, Liam Neeson and to some extent Ewan McGregor look bad so I am sure he would have done the same with the child actors used in Game Of Thrones. Everything wrong with the prequels including the performances was Lucas' fault. Jake Lloyd is no exception.

I am not a fan of Abrams' Star Trek films but none of that is because of the actors. I hope Abrams continues that with this new film. I also don't care for Super 8 but the performances were excellent so he is capable of getting the most from actors.

No. Look at our history. World War I was said to be "the war to end all wars". Big celebrations. And then just 21 years later, Hilter starts WW II.

Nuclear deterrence was supposed to end war as well because each nation knew that if it started a nuclear war, it too would be bombed into oblivion. And that did seem to work, but smaller regional wars took its place.

And no one ever predicted how predominant terrorism and terrorist groups would become.

So it's perfectly reasonable (IMO) that 30 years after the celebrations in Episode VI, someone would start war again in the attempt to gain power, whether it was the original rebels now becoming corrupt after gaining power or the Sith once again trying to control the galaxy.

Yep, I edited my post to make that point as well. I love George for giving us this universe, but I'm so happy (even more so after seeing the new teaser) that he's no longer in the director's chair.

Acting is about more than just remembering your lines.

Are any of the performances really any different from the OT? Aside from not really having a kind of rapscallion character like Han Solo, the characters and acting are in the same league.

My first reaction was that this looks aesthetically similar to the OT.

Yeah there was a lot of CG but I didn't feel like I was drowning in green screen drapery.

What I can;t figure out is that Lucas didn't have to sell off Lucasfilm to Disney. He could have simply funded these new Star Wars films, hired Abrams to come on board, and go that direction with it. We'd still have the films at 20th Century Fox, along with the fanfare music. To be frank, the one thing that I'm going to miss about the new films is the Fox Fanfare music that opens each Star Wars film (Episodes I-VI).
Lucas got tired of the fans constant complaining and decided to call it quits with the whole thing. People complain all the time about the additions and alterations he made to the OT with the Special Editions starting in 1997. They are/were HIS films to do with as he pleases and he said way back in 1977 when Star Wars was first released that he was unhappy as a filmmaker with some of the corners that had to be cut because of budget constraints. So he went back when he had all the money, time, and technology he needed to fix the issues he had always had. Fans lost their sh** and the rest is history. Finally, after so long dealing with the incessant nagging he threw his hands up in the air and cried uncle. That's why he sold it.

I like the trailer and while I don't dislike the lightsaber like some seem to it is still fun to joke about it. Perhaps the design will be explained in the film that will make more sense. I also liked the little droid that was speeding across and thought that the CG for it was great. The best part of that little scene was that there were not 2000 other things flying around in the back ground for no reason other than they could put them there.

I think Lucas had been there and done that with Carrie and Mark. Better actors auditioned but they seemed more natural with the dialogue. They were just perfect fits. I'd imagine George thought the same with Jake, hoping there was more lightning in the bottle with the casting.

It would have been fun! It would have put the spin on Vader's lines to Luke on Bespin. Vader would be thinking "I've waited all these years to get my own back, to really screw with this kid's head, just like Mom did to me ..."

All he needed to do was release the OT without the alterations, which he could have done in addition to his special editions. But he couldn't do even that. THAT is why fans have been up in arms.

As far as the teaser goes, meh. The Jurassic World teaser certainly trampled on this one as far as buzz and information. Doesn't bode well, but...let's wait for the full trailer.

Yep, James Earl Jones was physically unable to yell "NO, NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO" in 1983.

The thing is he didn't "need" to do anything. He owned the movies, not us. As mad as people got there is nothing they could have done to change that simple fact. Well, now Disney owns the golden goose and who knows what they'll do? However, according to Mrs. Kennedy there are still no plans to release the unaltered versions. I'm happy with them now. Sure the Noooooo thing that was most recently added to Jedi was a bit much, but you know? I can live with it. And as for the Lloyd thing that is still going on. Answer me this. This isn't at you sir, this is back on another topic. So you hated Jake Lloyd and felt that he ruined the movie. Okay. Perception is unique to everyone. However, does that justify sending hate mail to a 9 year old as was done? Really just the idea of hating a 9 year old kid who didn't set out to ruin your experience with malicious intent is frankly depressing.

That one bugged me, but I can live with it. It was George's movie so he could do what he liked. Now it's under Disney's banner and all is right again in the world. Or is it?

Why would his parents, or agent for that matter, even let him see that stuff in the first place?

And I'm pretty sure I've hated a 9 year-old kid -- of course I was also 9 at the time.

They can't screen "everything". Something is bound to slip through. And LOL on that last one. It's the older people hating a kid I find problematic. Besides, what he missed at home he got in school.

Well, there are at least two answers to that.

The most likely in my opinion is: The fans want to see the same old stuff again, and desperately try to recapture that magic, even though what has changed is them, not the films. That's why we have the same old ships 30 years later. Lol

Love that scene in Spaceballs.

Not exactly, but I thought he was in the middle of making "sexy" time. Lol

I know it's nonsensical, since the trooper outfit doesn't really allow for that sort of activity, but it looks so funny.

Well, they're still using the A-10 Warthog, and it was introduced in the early 1970s.
