I think that's just a placeholder date. But that sounds about right.

Yep.

Having said that, it's not doing phenomenal business in the US. I would not be surprised if it reaches BD in February, especially if it doesn't get a lot of Oscar nominations.

It'll most likely have the dreaded shifting aspect ratios like TDK & TDKR, I really hate that.

it's doing solid enough..it should be close to matching it's budget domestically alone after this weekend

and it will at least get the technical nominations

[QUOTE=RobertLuketic;10089645]Apparently it's coming to blu-ray on March 10th https://www.blu-ray.com/movies/Inter...Blu-ray/77552/

A thought-provoking and mind-enriching movie. Can't wait for a blu-ray release. QUOTE]

"Thought-provoking"----- exactly! I saw this superb film yesterday in IMAX. It demands a revisit before leaving the theatre.
I think INTERSTELLAR may be the most provocative and interesting "sci-fi" film released since Kubrick's 2001: A SPACE ODYSSEY in 1964---- when this much younger moviegoer saw it five times in Cinerama during its initial run on Hollywood Blvd.
Chris Nolan seems to be heading towards filling those hard-to-fill footsteps.:

Great movie, I just hope for an earlier release date. Would've thought they'd like to release it before the Oscars to boost its chances.

A short theatrical window would create the impression that it's a failure, which would actually hurt its chances.

I'm there! Despite its flaws, a fantastic movie overall and I commend the Nolan bros. ambition.

I can see it leading the pack in oscars nominations due to the technical award categories (like Gravity last year) . These are the nominations I can see it getting:

Best Original Screenplay
Best Score
Best Sound Mixing
Best Sound Editing
Best Visual Effects
Best Film Editing
Best Production Design
Best Cinematography
Best Director
Best Picture

Acting-wise, I thought both Mcconaughey and Chastain were excellent, but I'm not sure if they'll get nominated.

I only viewed it on a regular screen. How much shifting took place? I don't mind the shifts if they're for entire sequences but TDKR had moments that irritated me when it would cut back and forth.

Continuing the legacy begun by IMAX trailblazer Christopher Nolan and his use of IMAX® 15-perforation/70mm film cameras in The Dark Knight and The Dark Knight Rises, sixty-six minutes of Interstellar was shot using these same cameras. Exclusively at The Henry Ford IMAX Theatre, these sequences will expand to fill the entire screen—Michigan’s largest—and will deliver unprecedented crispness and clarity, providing audiences with the best-possible immersive cinematic experience.

I'd say it's definitely a lock for VFX, Production Design, Score, and Cinematography nominations. Chastain could land a nomination if the Supporting Actress field turns out to be relatively weak (all indications so far are that it kinda is), and I do think it'll sneak into Best Picture along with Gone Girl as the token "we need these popular movies nominated to boost ratings" selection. The movie is too polarizing to get Director and Screenplay nominations, and too long to get Editing (as much as I enjoyed it, the first 45 minutes on Earth drag). I'd love to see McConaughey get some love but the field is too crowded. The movie won't get any Sound nominations, nor should it.

As things currently stand, I could easily see Interstellar taking home the trophies for Cinematography, VFX, and possibly Score.

I see what you're saying, but Academy voters have notoriously short memories and tend to latch onto whatever is most recent and hyped (no one's been talking about Foxcatcher recently and six months ago it was the pre-ordained Chosen One). Nolan hasn't exactly been laying on the bonus features recently, either; they've mostly been glorified EPKs, so it's not like they'll be waiting for him to put together a Fincher-type package for home video. It would behoove the studio to at least get something out there with top-notch A/V to boost Interstellar's chances of landing technical trophies, which are frankly its best shots given how polarizing the reactions to the movie have been.
